It must be the heat - anyone else HOT?

Posted by Kath on August 1, 2006, at 14:07:58

Not very much activity here. Maybe it's the heat.

Here in Ontario, north of Toronto its:

37C

47C factoring in the humidity

approx:

99F

117F factoring in the humidity

AND I don't have air conditioning! or a pool; lake; pond; river or any other outdoor water near.

OK - I have a bathtub...inside.

It is TOO hot.

Most places in the US have central air conditioning and are inside. But I have no idea where they are.Love Phillipa

It is SOOOO hot. Heat index of 101 F here, and it's already evening. They're saying it'll be "uncomfortably sultry" tonight. Doesn't that sound kind of scandalous? :P I don't have A/C where I live either.

We must be close because it's 37°C and 47°C with humidity here too.

We don't have A/C. It's even hotter here with the computer turned on. Too bad our basement isn't finished. It's much cooler down there.

Yeah...down here in Niagara, just across Lake Ontario, 115-120 with humidex. My folks have central a/c, and we live in a big house, so my room is way up on the second floor, and I *also* have a window a/c. Gawwdd...I am the always talking about being pro-environment, global warming, etc...and here I am blowing the atmosphere up with air conditioners!..lol. Oh ya, and just read Al Gore's new book, "An Inconvenient Truth" which is very good as well.I'd like to see his movie. Then again, I'd like to see the current Prez...ohh...better not say...will get blocked for sure..lol.

**********Yikes.
You know it's been hot when the temp reads 80 (27C) & you think - Oh jeez - that's not too bad!! (and if I step outside it feels delightfully cooler!!) It just rained & that seems to have gotten rid of the heat somewhat. Now it's hotter inside my house & I have 3 fans pulling the outside air IN. If I was feeling at all self-righteous for not having an air conditioner (which I wasn't anyway) - but if I was, the fact that I had 4 fans blasting last night cancels any conservation I might have been engaging in!*****

*********I'd join a thread on NOT being impressed with one's country's 'leader'. I'm not at ALL impressed with our current Prime Minister.....scared stiff of the direction he's going is more like it! I'd get blocked too if I spouted off about him! I hope it's cooler down your way also! Kath*****

Yes Kath, I am no fan of P.M. Harper by a LONG shot...that is for sure. I just feel he is taking Canada in all the wrong directions, taking away our culture and Canadian values. Now Bob, nothing uncivil said there...

Nothing at ALL uncivil!!!!! I guess we could do a sentence like this:

I don't like Mr. H***** because******* * **** ****** * *********** *********** *******!

That's be safe enough!!

It's cooling down somewhat here. I hope it gets cool for the night becuase at least then I can open the windows & let in the cool air so the house is cooler to begin tomorrow with.

I bought a whole bunch of perennial plants at Canadian Tire for 50 cents/plant!!!!! I'm pretty excited & now I'm going to go out & plant them.

Hope you have a nice evening.

Well, it's hot as the h$$$ here in NYC. And there are "travelling" brown-outs all over the city.

Travelling brown-outs apparently just pop up anywhere, and then pop up somewhere else, without the utilities being able to predict or control them.

My AC, for example, cut out several times this afternoon, when I was working-- and now is pushing out tons of air, none of it the least cold.

Although I heard earlier this evening, that I could get a fifteen-minute nose job--without surgery! (Unfortunately, I missed the ten-oclock news, so that's all I know.)

******I hope it's cooled down for you now. It has here. It's now 23C/72F (approx) & I feel as if I'm gasping in the fresh cool air!!! There was a terrible storm last nite. I was over in the next town picking up some compost for my garden; I heard about it on an internet site called "pass-it-on" - it's like 'freecycle' - people who want to give away stuff free post about it & people who are looking for stuff free post asking for it. It's a GREAT way for things not to end up in landfill sites! Anyway, here I was shovelling compost into big buckets & putting them into my car. I could tell it was going to storm, so I was hurrying & not even looking around me. All of a sudden, the people across the road shouted to me "You should get inside. There's going to be a really bad storm." & when I looked at the sky it was BLACK. Well, OK - dark gray! You could see the dark clouds blowing around. I hurried & finished & the wind started to really blow. Leaves were hurling around in the air & I was really getting scared. As it was, I was heading South & the storm was coming from the North. I felt like I was racing from the storm (I was driving REALLY fast to try to keep ahead of it!! Over to the East, near the horizon, you could see a distinct line where the black clouds ended & totally white & blue sky appeared! It was very intense & scarey. Lightening & wind to beat heck. I got home safely but the lightening was scarey.

ANYway, it poured & today, miracle or miracles it's cool & clear & fresh & THANK GOODNESS!!!!!

Hope it's like that in your neck of the woods too.********

(Unfortunately, I missed the ten-oclock news, so that's all I know.)

******Maybe they want you to provoke someone into punching you in the nose! LOL Anyway, hope it's cooler there. Take care. Kath*******

Kath-- that storm sounds amazing. Scary, but amazing. I've seen those from my window a few times-- they come up the river and go roaring past, and 15 minutes later, the sun is out again.

But 72F--how perfectly delightful.

We won't get that anytime soon. Maybe in late September. I'm just wishing for non-humid 85F--

It was around 100F here today-- Awful-- but seems cooler now.

****You know, Jost, I would have loved to watch it out a window! I was in awe of it, but was too preoccupied with trying to drive ahead of it & too scared to be able to enjoy it, which I think I could otherwise have done.*****

Yes - today it was lovely also around that. LOVELY. Non-humid 85 would be fine, yes. The humidity is the killer part of it. Oh dear. 100 is NOT fun. But you said late Sept. Don't your temperatures go down before that? I would have thought your temps were similar to ours.

My husband & I are going to a rented cottage tomorrow. Halfway up the Bruce Peninsula - in Ontario, North of Wiarton, partway up towards Tobermoray at Barrow's Bay (If you feel like looking on mapquest or anything).

The weather is supposed to be good. I am SO aware of weather now after this past week.

We'll be hiking on the Bruce Trail.....that area is so totally beautiful.

Hope it gets cooler for you! :-) Kath***
