Hey cloudydaze, so you're a graphic designer too?

Posted by TexasChic on July 30, 2006, at 19:38:53

I was on the admin site and just about to post 'what's wrong with photoshop?' when I saw your post saying the same. Are you still in school or are you in the field now?

I am a senior in the Communication design program.

I will graduate in the spring - and i am terrified.

I've been a student since age 17 (i am now 23). I don't know anything else really...and i am absolutely terrified of being in the "real world". I haven't had many jobs, because of my emotional probs, but I'm gonna have to suck it up if I want a job in this competitive field!

Not only am i graduating and getting a job, I will also be moving out of my moms house for the first time, and supporting myself for the first time....yikes. I also have about 10,000 in school loans to pay off as soon as i graduate.

But - i absolutely love what i do. Can't say I'm the best designer, but I am adequate, or I would have been rejected at my first portfolio review (and not been accepted into the program).

And yes, I am a mac girl. Once you go mac, you never go back....lololol. Once I learned how to use a mac, I started thinking PC's were so much more confusing and not as logical (no offense to PC users, I just really love my mac). This year I was required to buy a mac laptop (new rules of the design program), and we are now inseperable...lol.

I've got a cute little white ibook g4, and i would be lost without it!

We need to start a club for girls who like macs....hehee

I got my first mac 5 years ago- white ibook G3 after my PC literally caught on fire (friction from HD disk head or something ridiculous)

got a Powerbook 17 inch when the original ibook had a logic board failure.

Powerbook is sooooo sweet. so smooth and pretty.

You all look so lovely when I read your posts on my powerbook. just wanted you to know that.

p.s. don't do any design, really, but I have to make nice presentations and do some technical drawings here and there, and I like the photo software and the clicky keyboard and... (sigh) SO in love with my silver laptop ... (gushing)

Hehehehe,

I've got a mac too, and I'm a girl! Can I join your mac club??

Mine's a silver PowerBook, bought in 2003. Still going strong through!

BTW do you know how to tell how much memory you have left?

I use an eMac, plenty of juice for my limited use of applications. All I ever do is post (smile), use iTunes, and the photo-thingy, which I love because it fixes my photos so they look decent.

I remember back in the olden days when Macs were first introduced in the office. I had the hardest time using a mouse! I'd get to the edge of the mousepad, fall off, and thought I had to start all over again. Now it's like riding a bike.
But I still use keystroke commands instead of mouse clicks when I'm in a hurry :-)

Long live Apple!

I second that!

Yesterday, the college called me to make sure I had purchased a computer...

I was wondering when they were going to enforce that rule - I bought mine last year, and there were still students that didn't have theirs yet!

About finding out how much space you have left...I really am not sure....I assume you open up your hard drive disk and down at the bottom, mine says I have 12GB left....d*mn...i need to do some housecleaning!

I'm embarrassed to say I looked and looked and could not figure out how to tell how much memory you have left. Its probably something really obvious I'm missing. Although I've never claimed to know the technical stuff, I'm quite full of myself when I can figure it out.

P.S. I love 'Once you go Mac, you never go back!'

Today one of my co-workers was calling herself stupid for not getting a Mac. I told her it wasn't a matter of intelligence, just a matter of memorizing how you do this and that. I know when I get on a PC, although I CAN navigate (eventually), I'm still wandering around going, where is the freaking trash can??? Its just a learning curve.

Maybe tomorrow I'll ask her if she wants me to show her some stuff. I've never, ever trained anybody, and am not sure if I can. When I was trying to tell her that she didn't mess anything up by delelting Quark from her dock, KnowItAllGirl came in and took over. Then she offered to train her. My co-worker knows what she's like so it was kind of funny. I wanted to tell her I could help her, but low self esteem took over and I decided I wouldn't be able to show her since I don't know enough about PC's to tell her what compares to what. But I later realized I was putting myself down. I'm going to try to make it a point tomorrow to ask her is she would like to sit down with me and let me show her what I know. Wish me the self confidence to actually do it!
