I feel like I'm a teenager trapped in a 36 year old body that feels like it's much older than that. What should I do?

But you are, Curt (trapped, I mean). That's what growing older is about. Even though you (your mind and personality) change over time (you can reflect on it, and it is so), you always feel the same age. With me it's 15.
How about a midlife crisis? Would one of those help?

** I thought I had one before (a little early). If it was "mid-life," I should be dead in about 15 years (52 yrs. old) If I haven't had one, and it's worse than the one I thought I had, then I am in for a shock. Can you have more than one?

Sure you can have more than one crisis. Maybe a 30's crisis for you (do I REALLY want this job, spouse, life, etc.) It's the time people dump their jobs, spouses, etc. A mid-life crisis is more often, "this same horse$hit for another 30 years?"
I had the same feeling when I was in the middle of therapy (except I decided I was emotionally 13 yo)-but once aware of it, I "grew up" reasonable fast. I certainly didn't want to be 13. Maybe try reading some existentialism-Sartre, et. al. are always on the trapped trip-try, "No Exit"-because it's short. That probably wasn't of any help, but best of luck-I hope things work out.

Exisistentialism is a gross, empty philosophy, but sadly it fits me too well. Ouch. I feel nauseous.
Naive maybe, but please explain:

I'm just looking at Sartre's "No Exit" from Kafka's point of view. In "The Castle", for example, "K" is trying to find the way in.

I guess it could be anything...a midlife crisis, boredom, or if it needs a label....ADHD, Ausbergers ....go from a - z, you're sure to find something that fits.
I've been in my 20's for soooooo long, I tell my kids I'm 38, I feel 3 years old sometimes, and ya gotta know I don't fit in with the soccer moms.
I say put your party pants on and get out there and dance - if you're a teen ager enjoy it. Don't bowl anyone down in the process, but if ya wanna surf, or play sand volleyball, or get tattooed, or move to Tahiti.....whatever, why not? Ya only live once, if you're feeling perky go for it! ; )

I just like "No Exit" because it is a short story that sort of speaks to me in my more depressed/anxious moments-here were are in life, desperately trying to find something of value and something to do to entertain ourselves-but we are trapped-there isn't any other choice ("I've been thinking, I'd rather be a moose in Montana") Existentialism says there is no meaning to life other than what we bring to it. Ouch.

I agree with fairywings. Do whatever feels comfortable to you, don't try to be someone you are not. You don't have to grow up all at once.
As long as you're reasonably responsible, I see no harm in acting like a teenager sometimes. However you act, I think it's acceptable to feel different than your age.
I feel younger than my age too. I'm 24, but I feel more like I'm 17. Sometimes I act like I'm 5.
