Any musicians out there want to share their music?

Posted by jay on March 10, 2006, at 12:50:05

I was wondering if there are any 'virtual' (online) musicians who have their own music they want to share. It can even be cover tunes. I have stuff...not sure if I am ready to share yet though. I've done it through an internet 'collab', which is hooking up with others and creating tunes. Not bad stuff!! I play drums, bass, and synth. (Not all at once of course!!..lol..) I will post when I am ready. :-)

Just wanted to say, I'm a guitar player, but I'm not net connectected with it. I'm self edumacated, and am all over the fret board as fast as I can. Nothing to add, just some musician support, and a first contact for maybe future whatever.

I'm in an extreme down spot right lately. But I know the answer is music. If I lived in a house, instead of an apartment styled condo, I could sing, and more importantly, play guitar, right now. I can turn up the amp, tune up, and go! I can play to anything. I can close my eyes and drift into the notes. I can wring noises out of a six string and a cheap marshall, that only I can make. Just me. Put me with a sympatico friend on guitar or drums, and I'm all up in there. damn.

what is there but what you are good at? what? substance abuse to hide the truth?

Hi James...

Well, I am mainly a drummer, but dabble in bass, keys, and very basic guitar. I have a little home studio set up. I am not a great musician...but trying very hard. I belong to a website (it's free) where musicians gather and collaborate. (Using their soundcards onboard their computer and some simple software to record with. I can send you the name of the site...I just don't want to give it out here for anybody 'discovering' who I am there...know what I mean??..heh..silly, I know.) I'd like to post a link of one of my tunes...just still a bit embarrased...ya know? I love tons of music...but one of my 'main' ones over the years has been U2. Likely because they started out as poor musicians but had the *drive* to get their message out there. Maybe I'll post something latter...how about you..what are your influences?

Best,
Jay

I understand about being a little shy about putting your art out there for anyone at first. That's why I've really only played with my friends along the years. Some have gone on to bands that got big locally (only), but I could never cross that line of the stage or recording studio. I will, even though I'm older now than a starting musician, because a career or stardom isn't my goal. I'm also (I think I mentioned) self trained, which is a way of saying I've forgotten how to read music 3 times (really) and mostly improvise.

I grew up liking U2. I guess they are a huge influence, because in the 80's I probably listened to them daily or weekly. The Who are my main band. So, following my love of the who, I like clash, ramones, husker du, generation x, flaming lips, plus Neil Young and John Coltrane. I guess it comes down to a combination of musicality (tune) and noise (distortion, feedback, or dissonance) in combination of a song.

I don't know, earlier, Deneb asked "what do you think about" and the answer is music. I'm always listening, humming, singing, playing, or worst of all having a compulsive song loop playing behind my thoughts. It's cool though. God gave me a gift, and my mother helped train it with piano and choir. Now it's part of me.

I'll practice some, I had hurt my hands a few weeks ago, and maybe we can figure a way to collaborate. The idea is fascinating, what the net allows.
