Something I've noticed about p-docs

Posted by Deneb on December 29, 2005, at 16:56:37

OK, this might not apply to *all* pdocs, so I'm not generalizing here.

I've noticed that p-docs never make a big deal out of my suicide and self-harm threats. I think this is a very good thing. They don't over-react. They are always so calm about everything.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Once in a while they are so calm about it that I start finding my own threats kind of funny and ridiculous. I'm guessing that is because of the weird juxtaposition of their calm verses my out of control behaviour.

Other people tend to freak out and upset me.

no, but I have never done that before. Once my pdoc was concerned that I was thinking about it, but he was very serious and concerned about it, too concerned. I think suicide is taken very seriously, maybe Im wrong. It is possible that some pdocs hear about it a lot, if a patinet talks about it freely and doesn't act on it I would think it changes the power of the word...

Probably because to other people those threats are not heard on a regular basis, if I heard someone I knew talking about suicide I would likely calmly intervene, but I wouldn't joke about it or take it lightly. How do we know who is going to kill themselves? we don't and we have to base it on what we are told, right?
Maybe for some people talking about death is therapeutic? Maybe it is a way of saying, Im unhappy and I need help but I don't want to die? I don't know, but I hope pdocs take suicide seriously.

Maybe the p-docs I see realize that I don't really want to die. Maybe they know that threatening things is a normal type of communication with me.

I think they take it seriously too, cuz when I took that aspirin OD, I got locked up even thought I didn't want to die.

Hmmm...I just wondered something... Do I have a bad record now? Since I was involuntarily locked up? Is this going to haunt me for the rest of my life?

What will happen if I do it again? Will I be locked up again?

I don't know if you have a bad record but Im sure it is documented that it happened, but who is privy to that information...not many. Don't worry
