you know....you got me thinking...maybe I'd better ease up on my irrational need/desire to make fun of and then blow up and destroy those little blue ones...
I mean...how do I know when that kind of feeling from others might be turned on Strawberry Shortcake, My Lil' Pony, or even..........{BIG DRAMATIC PAUSE}........

I used to LOVE them as a kid. It was my favourite show (sesame street was a little long for my attention span).
We got them out on video a couple years back so we could reminiss (how do ya spell that?!)
They were TERRIBLE
Not just TERRIBLE but WORSE THAN TERRIBLE

Puffinstuff. The movie. With witchiepoo and the boy with the magic flute etc.But as a kid... I loved them a whole heap.
BP (gas station) even had little plastic models of the different smurfs. Most kids used to collect them. I think there were over 100...
Animaniacs. I swear that will never date!

I think it was something about their high-pitched whiny voices that did something unpleasant to the back of my spine.
Or their relentless cheeriness, their inability to "see it coming," or the vaguely discomforting fact that Smurfette was the ONLY girl (even as a youngster I knew there was something "off" about that!)
I also hated the fact that Gargamel was so STUPID a villain and -- like Wile E. Coyote, never actually GOT the roadrunner. I often dreamed that he would catch and eat a Smurf. I secretly cheered for him on the few occasions I actually watched a whole cartoon. If I cheered out loud, my sister would cry and complain to my mom...
I guess I was never able (even as a kid) lose myself in the "willing suspension of disbelief" that is required for successful cartoon enjoyment. They just never gave the opposition a fair chance!
But that's just me...
and I know many people who LOVED the Smurfs!JenStar
