Hello, I am nervous because I am moving to Portland OR. I live in a small town now and I am moving there to have more of a social life. Is anyone out there familiar with Portland? I understand the big community mental health center is cascadia. Cascadia says you have to get on Oregon Public Health insurance to qualify. Is this hard to do? If you're from Portland do you like it?

Hello,
I'm not from Portland but I visited friends there several times. I really liked it. I grew up close to Baltimore and it reminded me of that city, only clean and less crime. It had cute little trendy galleries and nice restaurants. The people in general seemed really nice, and the weather was mild (compared to Maryland).
I hope you really like it! Plus, it's close to the coastline, which I think is one of the most beautiful in the country.

I live an hour north of Portland. It's a great city. We often go down there for shopping, sight seeing, etc..
I love to walk around downtown. They have some neat shops.Another neat place to visit is the Pacific Science Center.
I don't know much abotu their mental health options but I imagine it would reputable.
Good luck on your move- you'll get used to all the rain in the winter, don't worry. LOL

Hi elbee,
My daughter and SIL moved there about 10 months ago. Just outside, actually - Tigard. They love it. Climate, scenery, everything pretty much. They chose it for the mild weather, decent minimum wage, location in Pacific NW (have relatives and friends in WA) and not-too-high cost of living. I hope to visit this fall...maybe Thanksgiving.
I've sure it'll work out great. Moving is always nerve-wracking, to some extent. Hope you'll let us know how it goes.
If you want me to ask my daughter anything specific, I'd be more than happy to do that :-)

Sorry, can't actually be any help at all, but just wanted to say thanks for triggering a really nice memory for me of a young lady from there who I met what seems several lifetimes ago, for what was but a moment (big sigh).

Some friends of mine are moving from here (San Francisco) to Portland. They chose Portland for a few reasons--they already know some people there, the housing is cheaper, and there's a Kaiser close by. I've heard nothing but good things about it.
I.
