Borderline Personality - anyone?

Posted by borderliner on January 8, 2005, at 5:21:55

Hi, thought ide post about Borderline to see how many of us are out there. I have only just found out that i have borderline personality disorder. So i am pretty much scattered about it. Need to talk to others with experience on it or wait for my new med to work. Whichever comes first. hee hee.
I often post here so expect a reply.

Hi *s*

My diagnoses is also BPD.. I found out, as so many of us in the UK do, when I was discharged from hospital and steamed open my discharge letter I was meant to give my GP!

I've come a long way over the last 5 years.. I never found a med that really helpe me much in anyway. Olanzapine (Zyprexa) helped with the suicidal ideation, but other than that, not a huge amount helped. I had 2 years of CBT which did help an awful with quite a few aspects of it.. but I don't know what I can put most of my recovery down to really.

If you're in the UK, I'm involved with a charity called Borderline UK (http://www.borderlineuk.co.uk) - its run almost entire by BPD people, and we have some support boards, a great website.. but a group of us there do alot of work to remove stigma and improve services for those with a PD diagnoses.. Its been really worthwhile work, and has actually turned partly into a career for me now!!

Good luck.. and NEVER.. ever.. let anyone tell you its untreatable!!

Thanks for your input nikki. unfortunately im not in the UK. Its good to see someone really putting their energy into helping reduce stigma of PD's. Its defenetely one social view that needs improvement(i wont get started on other views, YIKES!)
As far as medication goes, ive tried most but find Sodium Valproate is an excellent mood stabilizer and seroquel is great before bed. im now on my 2nd day of treatment with reboxetine and WOW! i dont wanna jinx it but yeah, WOW!
You said u didnt know what it was that really helped u so far. I say its yourself. Doesnt matter how much CBT or DBT or Meds u go through, it takes your own motivation to want to succeed and live happier.
Well Done.

Hey now I was on Sodium Valproate (thats Epilim - right?) and Seroquel for a number of years too...

You seeing my p-doc or something?

There are lots of people here with BPD / Borderline Traits. I started a thread a while back asking the same question. Turned into a bit of a whinge about how hard it can be to get appropriate treatment and judgemental attitudes though, so I decided not to include the link.

Hello :-)

Hey there... well yeah it was my pdoc who perscribed the seroquel. However he also gave me effexor which turned into such a bad experience i never went back to him(yet, i might have to if my GP doesnt want to perscribe seroquel anymore, hes very cautious saying i dont have schitzofrenia, thankfully) The Sodium Valproate, yep Epillim, was perscribed by the pdoc at the hospital after my abrupt and very agitating come down from efexor, she also tripled the seroquel dose until i could start my new/old med mirtazapine, the latter also turning into a bad experience. So now im trying out Reboxetine and so far soooooooooooo goooooooooooood.
cya round.

hi, good to hear u have a good pdoc. i think i have the problem where i need to have a label on it in order to justify it. Doing so keeps my anxiety levels at bay. If my pdoc were to say i just needed help with a few things i doubt ide go back.Funny how different people will respond to different docs.
keep up the good work and remember it doesnt matter what ur pdoc does for u its still u who has to make the changes.

hey,
my pdoc seems pretty confused as whether i am "just borderline" or am BPD and bipolar. do you all have really intense moods? mine usually last 4 or 5 hours and then totally change. i go up and down and up and down in an unending cycle.

just wondering, ya know?

examin your cycle. do your moods switch because of external factors? would u call it a manic state and then a depressed state?
they discovered it was borderline for me by asking my partner. i lash out at the fear im gonna be left or that im being neglected. also one thing that i beleive is a lil different to bipolar is that my 'manic' state so to speak is actually anger and anxiety. the other flip side is major depression. sort of like 3 seperate ilnesses that i switch between on my own accord or when i feel im being disrespected, put down, talked about, abandoned or mistreated. I also dont like dr's who assume, i verbally attacked the pdoc at the hospital when she suggested i was fine and i go home. didnt realise at the time (as i wasnt medicated) but i reacted that way because i felt she was saying "theres nothign wrong with you"... i then went on to take an overdose in the hospital toilets... *shaking head* wtf am i?

Yup. Bit better than I used to. Not as intense anymore and more a couple of hours to a couple of days with the extreme ones. If it lasts more than a couple of days there may be something more going on...
