Probably about as much to you as your EST means to me :-)

How about if you come visit for summer, and then as winter comes along you can take me back with you for another summer? The sun has only just started to come out really. I think we used to get fine weather from October or November, just a bit of wind through October. But now it rains like anything and is really windy until January. Then we get 2 months of killer humidity and then it is back to winter... Winter is longer, but not as cold as it used to be, so that is something I suppose :-)

May is good for me, June / July is the worst of winter here. Oh, our humidity is really a killer. I swear, it is hotter in Australia but I can handle that heat ok, it is when it is just as hot in the shade as it is in the sun that it is a real killer. Because it is so humid the moisture sticks to your skin. Straight after a cold shower by the time you have dried yourself you are damp with humidity / sweat again... yuk. Anyways, by all means come on over :-)

Where abouts are ya?

Oh, and yes, bring lots of pie :-)

Hmm. 82.4 humidity... To tell you the truth neither C or F mean a heck of a lot to me. Numbers confuse me... When I said the weather is milder in winter I kinda meant that we have fewer frosts in the morining than we used to. Snow. Why would anyone want to live where they had to freeze their b*t off? I mean I understand it sorta NOW, but THEN???

Unfortunately, any pies you bring will have to be scoffed in the aeroplane - who knows what kinda germies you guys might have :-)

Last time I went to Australia I took a pack of dried apricots (out of sympathy for my vegan flight buddy). We had to scoff them on the plane. I learned my lesson about eating too much dried fruit, I surely did.. The last place you want to get a case of the f*rts is on an aeroplane.. oops.

Heh heh I guess f*rt's not allowed :-)

Yes, but I mean IN THE FIRST PLACE. Why the heck didn't your ancestors go find someplace warm? I mean you would think that people would try to find somewhere where the environment was pleasantly habitable. I suppose snow isn't that bad. But I get cold enough in winter here. Don't know how my leg injuries will go in the real cold.

Canada is cold. I am just realising how freezing certain parts of the world are. And I wonder why? Why would people choose to live there? I mean I understand about familiarity and lack of options etc. But the original settlers must have come from somewhere... Oh, don't mind me, I'm just raving. In Wellington it is pretty windy and it is also on a fault line (lots of earthquakes). In Rotorua bits of the ground violently spew up hot mud. You could literally be boiled alive if you fell into a thermal pit. Warm, though. No snow :-) And here. Well here there is NOTHING TO DO WHATSOEVER. Boring I say, boring as hell

Lol well my guess is they were bored and tired of say their governments and junk and THOUGHT they were going to better places but um soo not so....granted we have lots of crops and the US is known for most of the worlds grain and junk but I personally would rather have good weather :) much of the year it is nice..its the icky winter I hate..I lived in Canada for a while too it was about the same as here near Toronto. What kinda stuff do you like to do?? We have lots to do I just bore easy and or hate winter sports and junk

Sure, but why not better and warmer? Surely there were better and warmer places to go :-) Maybe it just didn't mean as much to them...
Is Canada about as cold as some of the northern parts? Thinking here of Boston and NY and such? Don't mind me, I am supposed to suffer from boredom by definition (I do wonder just how much my diagnosis has altered my self image sometimes). But with a population of around 120,000 there is never a lot to do here :-) I don't drive either, which doesn't help. And I can't walk very far. And our bus service sux. Anyhoo enough whinging. Have a good night :-)

Oh, what do I like to do? Art galleries and museums are good (see I am a boring kinda person really). Theatre is good, even amature stuff typically keeps me amused. Be nice to have some quiet bars with decent live music for a change. We pretty much have a teenager meat market going on. I don't know. I'd probably be bored anywhere on earth to tell you the truth.

Oh, and then theres computer and x-box games. I suppose the beauty in that is that you can take them anywhere. Like to get back into D&D but hard to find peoples willing to play. (Golly gee, I am a nerd aren't I???)

Actually, what I'd really like to do is...

Oh, ha ha! Yes of course there are small towns in the States too (we really do need an embarrassed emoticon or an equivalent). Golly gee, thats rather a few...

I found that in hunting down where one of the Universities I had applied to lives. In NY State so I just assumed the whole darn region was busy busy busy (It took a while to get the State / City distinction - embarrassed emoticon again). Anyways the place where the university is has even less peoples than where I am at now! I think it is a University town, however, because there aren't really all that many more peoples in the town than there are at the University. Just the husbands / wives / children of them, no doubt.

Still. I like cities. At least, I think I do. I like Auckland but that is tiny by international standards. I mean there are more peoples in Sydney than there are in the whole of NZ (just to give you some indication).

So I started this whole huge post back and hit reset not send.....sigh...OK Canada way up is way colder than in Boston in winter...but in Toronto its about the same...Toronto and Chicago are cool big cities (I do not like Detroit ) so much to do bars, bands, live concerts in the summer by the lakes, shops and cool odd shops, museams or many kinds..I have seen outdoor cafes with people playing like chess and stuff so who knows on the D and D ya know? maaaaybe??? The ethnic groups and places to eat ..wow so many....just tons to do..but sleeping mist stink....I live way out in the country and well I am not thrilled to hear a moo here and there :P

Actually, after my home turf of Manhattan, I'd highly recommend New Orleans (most European of all American cities, I feel), San Francisco (most extraterrestrial of all Earth cities), Austin, TX (most intergalactic of all Earth college cities -- wonderfully off-the-wall), Chapel Hill, NC (like Austin, but much smaller. Best, Atticus ;)

Hi Alex,
Boston has its moments -- especially with so many universities lying about in town and in nearby suburbs -- but there's a certain stuffiness about the place that sometimes gets on my nerves. I guess I'd describe it as a sort of deliberate effort to be as "quaint" and steeped in colonial era Massachusetts as is possible. For instance, I'm surprised the city council hasn't ruled that McDonald's fast-food joints are required to be called Ye Olde MacDonalde's.
Also, be forewarned: The traffic is murder during rush hour (not to mention the parking, which is a nightmare in perpetuity) -- mass transit is your best bet. I think in Boston what you have is a place with sites of real historic and cultural interest that have been repackaged as though Disney ran the place. It has the same plastic feel that Times Square now does in my neck of the woods, Manhatttan. It IS real, but it "feels" like Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyworld in Orlando, Fla., like a big simulacrum, like it's peculiarly unreal. I don't know if that makes sense to you -- or makes sense at all period, for that matter. But I guess that would be my main beef with Boston. All part of the "Starbuck"ing of America, I suppose. So it goes. Ta. ;) Atticus
