Any ideas would be appreciated because while we had a restful XMAS it was nice and all but didn't feel very holidayish....I am not sure we are gonna be in or out so any and all ideas would be cool....thanks :)

Thanks yes we too may end up doing the same but I would like to do something different. I am not up to a huge party we have done that in the past..you know stay at a motel and do the ballromms and all...I do not think we will want to eat dinner out when its very crowded cause well we hate that hahaha this is to be fun not a punishment...I don't wanna leave my dog alone at 12 because my only neighbor though maybe 2 acres away shoots guns on the New Year and junk...I wanna have fun but doing what? I can't drink either due to meds..I could get stoned I guess...hahah what to do?

Been reading a magazine article about a couple who spend all day on Xmas in the nude (on their own)...and love it...and another about 2 couples who totally BOYCOTT Christmas and cross it off their calender, preferring to spend it alone and intimately, NO PRESSURE, just doing what they want.
Say what you like, but I'm not a 'believer' in New Year and that dreaded New Year's Eve where we're all under pressure to be having fun and 'being out there'...what on earth is that all about. As a person with depression and all the madness that goes with it, I take one day at a time, and surely one whole new year doesn't make things brighter and better...honestly. And who follows New Year's resolutions anyway. It's really just another day, and we can carry on being as nice and kind to others as we normally are (I hope). So - we're going to spend it as a family and none of that 'what are we doing' stuff!
Hugs to you all! (I'm a big hugger..you'll notice)

Uh, you nixed all my ideas (movies, dinner). Hm, and I can't think of anything else. Go to NYC and watch the ball drop! I've always wanted to do that.

If you live in a part of the country that has lots of snow this time of year, sledding or skiing can be fun. How about bowling (something I haven't done in years and years, but the times that I did go with friends it was actually fun!). Maybe do something you've never done before, but have always wanted to do. Ballroom dancing might be a once in a lifetime kick.
Hope you find something fun to do.

Hi Tamara and thank you...now the bowling would be possible, I have not done that in ages , ballroom dancing would be fun and new but no time as he has to work the next day..The snow ideas I should think on and will..I hate snow so maybe this would be a way to force me to like it...I wish we had a snowmobile..I liked that years ago

I hope you start feeling better so that you can ring in the new year in a fun, festive way.
As for me, after 20 years of partying like a mad person on new year's eve and into the first day of the new year, the past few years I have begun to enjoy a quiet evening at home. It has become a time of reflection for me, and it's quite nice and therapeutic. I think next year, when I hope to be in better shape than I am now, I might look into volunteering somewhere on new year's eve (maybe at a hospital, shelter or seniors' home) and provide some company to those who are alone and lonely at that time of the year. I plan to do something like that on Christmas day next year as well, and have already told my family that.

I too have spent a lot of years some home , some at parties, some at bars....you name it...but I am impressed by the idea of helping others who are alone on New Years Eve/Day....I have thought to do that for Christmas and or thanksgiving to help and to also to be honest avoid my husbands family and all...now I am in awe and thinking I too may tap into this idea for next year also. I certainly know from family members who were ill and passed on how alone these times can be...GREAT idea and how unselfish...The cool thing as a volunteer is if I freak out I can go...(I suffer anxiety)
Thanks also on feeling better I have a bug that just hangs on been a couple weeks or so.....or I am just crazier than I think....could be both

I suffer from anxiety as well, sometimes really bad (like lately). For me anyway, doing selfless acts seems to reduce my anxiety since I get caught in others and the need/desire to help or try to bring them a wee bit of happiness, and it tends to occupy my mind and take it off the fears and anxious thoughts. Of course you are right, though, if the anxiety does become overwhelming, you can always leave.

My anxiety is way worse lately too and I am not sure if it is holiday stress... or...being sick...or...both but I hate it...yes one of the things I really love on the volunteering is the fact I can bolt if I need to..I haven't HAD TO BOLT IN A WHILE but kinda expect it semi soon if this anxiety and being ill doesn't let up. I will say lol I HOPE I do not have to bolt out on folks I am helping but it is nice to know I can..I think when I do this which will be next year..I will inform the organazation of my anxiety so they arent shocked...When I know I can leave I never to seldom have to..Thats why I liked being my own boss. Jobs are hard for me

We always cook lobster. I get them, we have fun chasing the cats with them, then we name them after people (usually from work) that we really don't like right before popping them in the boiling water.
That and a little wine makes for a special evening.

Thank you I found this rather funny...good way to vent anger...sadly I am too squimsih to have my lobster brought to me in the tail....and will not eat crab legs cause I can hear the noise....and I do have cats and they are old so we cannot chase them but the whole idea of messing with folks I dislike is a lol and one I may use next near like a dart board or something
