I too have spent a lot of years some home , some at parties, some at bars....you name it...but I am impressed by the idea of helping others who are alone on New Years Eve/Day....I have thought to do that for Christmas and or thanksgiving to help and to also to be honest avoid my husbands family and all...now I am in awe and thinking I too may tap into this idea for next year also. I certainly know from family members who were ill and passed on how alone these times can be...GREAT idea and how unselfish...The cool thing as a volunteer is if I freak out I can go...(I suffer anxiety)
Thanks also on feeling better I have a bug that just hangs on been a couple weeks or so.....or I am just crazier than I think....could be both

It has become a time of reflection for me, and it's quite nice and therapeutic. I think next year, when I hope to be in better shape than I am now, I might look into volunteering somewhere on new year's eve (maybe at a hospital, shelter or seniors' home) and provide some company to those who are alone and lonely at that time of the year. I plan to do something like that on Christmas day next year as well, and have already told my family that.
