I'm butting in, if that is OK.
I've been squimish about certain things and was sure when I went to nursing school that I wouldn't be able to handle it. I found that by focusing on how it all fits together and what it does (body parts) that I could handle it all better. I got really good a visualizing other stuff too.
And blood creates such an adreniline rush for me, the FIX IT NOW part, that I reacted, accomplished and threw up later once it was all over. :)
You'll get over it, or learn how to cope. Either way, you are not alone. There is a med student movie I'll get the name of that is great about a student being squimish. I just can't think of it now.

> > are there any universities a lot more easy to get into than others?Yes. Oxford, Cambridge, Nottingham, Bristol and the London Unis are generaly the most difficult. The Newer medical schools tend to be the easier ones to get in to.

Usually there are very limited places for mature students, so it is easier to get in with A levels (etc) rather than a degree. I've heard that if you have a first class degree they don't look at your A level grades when you apply, if you have a 2:1 you must have AAB at A level (or equivilent), and if you have a 2:1 or lower you won't be considered.
It will increase your chances of getting a place if you tailor your choices to what the med schools are looking for. Some like people who have a gap year or first degree, others don't. Some interview all candidates, others don't. Some want and A in chemistry, others will settle for a B etc. I've got a really good paper guide to what the different unis are looking for, I'll dig it out and if you ask more specific info I'll hapily pass it on to you. The thing that helped them was to take it slowly, and know when you have to go out (2 of my housemates faited in surgery in the last month - apparently it happens all the time!) The med school I'm at does human dissection, so we were given an intro to the gross bits before we had to look at live people with runny blood in them! Like someone else said, concentrate on how facinating the anatomy is, and you'll soon have no problems peering at half a dead person's rectum at close proximity to look at where the blood supply is coming from!
If you don't like the thought of human dissection, there are plenty of unis that don't do it - they do it on computer programmes instead.
