I keep gaining weight, but I don't think it looks too bad. I'm not sure though. I used to have a limit, a particular hip measurement, and if I went beyond that, I'd diet. I've gone several inches over and I've quit measuring. I just don't think I look too bad. In fact it's kind of interesting to me, having more flesh.
I keep outgrowing my clothes though. I just can't decide whether dieting is worth the trouble.

If you are within the "healthy" weight range for you height and body type, then you are fine. I know what you mean about the clothes, though.

I made a similar promise to myself about dieting if I went beyond a certain size. I'm well beyond that tiny size now and I've realized that maintaining a certain size is the least of my worries now. As long as you feel good about who you are on the inside (and you're not risking your health), I wouldn't worry about it too much.

<<Congratulations on not being obsessed with being thin, with being happy with your current self!I agree with what one of the posters said, though, it becomes worrisome if it affects your health. Is your diet healthy? Veggies, fruits, lean meats....If this is purely an aesthetic thing for you, then you go girl for not obsessing about thinness like so many people(me) do. I just read an article in Health magazine that other people generally think you look thinner than you perceive yourself to be, too....

<<Replacing clothes is expensive. Then dieting become a practical issue. Is forgoing food on a regular basis worth not spending so much extra cash on clothes? :-)Again, way to go on being flexible about what's pretty and what's not. Think of a little weight gain can make you voluptuous and curvy, rather than fat and ugly. Attitude. It really does matter. :-)

I have put on weight from meds, and have always been a big guy anyways. So, I have gotten an nice Fall wardrobe of many pairs of Docker pants with nice cotten shirts from Old Navy. They have really nice elastic straps in the back of the pants, and fit just *poyyyyfect* and oh so nice. :-)

Well actually what happens usually is-- I look at myself at home in the mirror and think 'Hey! Not too bad!' then if I look at myself in public place mirrors I think I look fat. Maybe I just have flattering lighting here. Whatever it is, I wish I could hang onto that acceptance all the time.

Sounds comfy. But we ladies have an even more forgiving option-- long skirts. The ones that sit at the hipbones, not the waist. Dark colors of course.

I think the image you have of yourself in your head has a lot to do with what you see in the mirror. I remember a few days ago that after watching some TV I was feeling pretty crappy about myself and when I looked in the mirror I thought my face looked really fat for some reason. I started to wonder about it though and the next day when I looked in the mirror my face was back to normal. I bet you start to think badly about yourself in public and what you see in the mirror changes. You know, your mind makes up a lot of stuff in your vision that isn't really there. Optical illusions are an example of your mind not seeing what's there.
I think what you need to do is just think to yourself that you look good while you're walking around in public and to start noticing any reactions from other people that you might think is because they think you look good. Remember those reactions and think back on them any time you start to doubt yourself or when you're looking in a mirror at a public place and see a distorted image of yourself.

The most beautiful (and sexy) women Ive ever met are the ones who are happy with themselves.
And you know what, I met most of them in Europe.
European men love real (read flesh!) women.
Maybe we should all just move! ;>)

Most men in America don't like catwalk models either and they don't expect swimsuit models either despite what the media portrays.

I must not be very good at making a joke. people always take me too seriously.
I think your right about american men, that wasnt my point
The memory that inspires me(although i cant say I live up to that inspiration) is those women i met in europe, curvy, vouptuous, some might say heavy, but more important how they carried themselves. The didnt hide under sweats like we do. They revel in their femaleness and I think their culture encourages it (vouge not withstanding, and the french are another matter).
European men love women, ( unfortunately 2 or 3 at a time, nothings perfect i quess).
And the women respond to that. Its reflected in the culture.
I think real american men love real women too. But it doenst seem reflected in our art and music.just my 2 cents

I hear you, femlite. Usually when I see a plump woman wearing normal figure-hugging clothes I think she looks great-- because it's obvious she's not ashamed of her body.

Ok Tabitha, let's not use that word. "Plump"...it's like Ball Park franks. They plump when you cook 'em. Anyway, I agree with all the gals on this thread. And I'm trying to get better about the way i stand and walk and hold myself. Ever since Pilates, I've just adopted this self-confident "air"- and I stress the quotes there. I'm far from it. But I feel better about myself and I think I look better. It hink the way you carry yourself makes a big difference. I'm not used to being above normal weight...past few years the depression and chemicals (thanks to all you fabulous drugs- there are too many of you to name!)I've gained weight. I hate it. And the killer is that I don't want to get new clothes because I don't want to face the MIRRORS or my size. AND I don't want to "waste money" on clothes that i won't (hopefully) fit in to forever. That's one of the reasons I like fall and winter, btw...a sweater can stay with you for a good 20 pound fluctuation.
Yeah I look at those women out there this summer wearing belly shirts and BELLIES to go with them, and I think, "Now if she can do that why can't I?"...meaning of course, "Wowee zowee, look at that belly hangin' out!"...but I wish I could just feel better for long enough stretches to keep my diet and exercise routine in check.
It comes easy for me when I feel good.
And this time around I'm, getting totally cheated because I'm good but I have BRONCHITIS!!!!!!!!!!grr.
What's for dinner tonight?

Yeah, the belly shirts with bellies look is not quite what I meant. I was thinking more of a nice wrap dress.
So I thought I'd try eating more vegetables and less fast food. Not that I'm dieting-- oh no. Just adding some healthy foods. Maybe they'll magically crowd out some of the high-cal stuff.
Usually when I eat healthier I gain weight-- I think it's just because I'm eating tastier food and having regular meals. Then I get mad and go back to my junk diet. But if I'm already gaining weight, why not eat better stuff-- right?
Crunch crunch.
Sorry about your bronchitis. May you at least get to dose up on slightly mind-altering cough syrup.

Oh I was unclear...I meant 'others' in belly shirt. I'm kind of short so I think i look like a nimrod in wrap skirts. And sarongy types things.
>>Maybe they'll magically crowd out some of the high-cal stuff.
Oh you don't know about that phenomenon? That's why i drink Diet coke, silly. The 'diet' foods are much stronger and once in the stomach and interacting with the high sugar or fatty stuff, they PREVAIL! So carry on with your veggies.
Bwa haha.>>I'm already gaining weight, why not eat better stuff-- right?
I'm supposed to say 'no' here, huh? Oh well.
Please T, you already said you're only like 15 pounds over right?
Cry me a river.
And bring out the violins.
Sorry if I'm being unsupportive.>>to dose up on slightly mind-altering cough syrup.
Thanks. ANd I WISH! The last stuff I got had some yummy narcotics in it but it messed up my mood. Gabbi said something like 'uh..duh!'...she was right of course. i hate that.
Try veggies with a little hummus.
There's hummus among us, did you know that?

Hey Tabitha, there's a book called _When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies_. It includes things like mirror work and thin / fat fantasies.
And wearing comfortable clothes that work for your body is a wonderfully nurturing thing. Have you seen BBCAmerica's show "What Not to Wear" ? They have a web site - where I've learned a lot.

ROFL. You've inspired me. I'd go grab a few veggies, if I weren't sick and dizzy from the six slices of extra thick pizza I just ate.Shhhhh.... Don't tell my husband.
