It doesn't look good. I have had my suspicions, but the pdoc's notes confirm it. He now has in the notes that I have been on every med/med combo known. Okay, so a few remain, but for all practical purposes, I've taken them all. I've been through many pdocs and therapists too. I've seen the arrogant, the incompetent, the brilliant, the caring, the attentive, the absent-minded, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I've spent soooo many hours in therapy that I'm occasionally so mentally balanced that I give therapy to the therapist (or maybe they're just that nuts). I've had a pdoc become rude to me out of frustration. I've been referred to even more frequent time spent with the therapist. My future medications are awaiting FDA approval. I've gotten pretty frustrated myself. So, to shift my focus elsewhere, I've decided to collect pens. I would like a record of all the medications I have been on in pen form. Of course, I wouldn't say no to notepads, mugs, clocks, calendars, etc. I've just got to figure out a way to get my hands on the stuff. Let me know if you have any leads for me. I think this could be quite an accomplishment, especially with some of the older stuff.
Off to search for treasure.....

Hmm, you may need to impersonate a doctor and hang out at medical conventions. The pharmreps will flock around you. They're the ones with the pens and goodies.
Or... try a heart-rending letter to the drug companies. I once got a free giant box of Jujyfruits that way. (candy company, not drug company, but same principal).

You're right about the older stuff being hardest. Once the patent runs out do they still make psns? You would think there would be an eBay market.
How is your quest coming?

Hi. I have been doing the pen thing forever. I have had the same doc for years , so now he knows better than to give me a new med without a pen. Also making friends with office staff can help. That's how I get clipboards. I even have disposible paper lunch products (eg, sereqil papercups and napkins cup, effexor paper plate, risperdal microwave popcorn) You name it it's out there. Also. if just starting, it may help to send something on secretarie's day.

PS will trade extraa for ones I dont have. You are right, older is harder. Great example, they only have them if the patend is valid. Once it becomes available, genericly, your odds go down

O often sitting there eyeing up the pen on my pdocs desk.. its an Effexor one!!! Oh, and the pad of Effexor post-its are so desireable!!!
Terrible really.. especially since my husband can get all of these things (he works in the pharamacy of 3 large hospitals!) he refuses to!!! Says its not actually very funny!! Spoil Sport!!

For years (dating back to my pre-medication days), my favorite mug has been a Valium mug given my sister by a drug-rep friend. I actually had 2 but one got pilfered from the kitchen in my office. Of course no one would own up to having taken this treasure.
Pretty bizarre status symbol.

I guess I'm not the only one who has had trouble getting family to help out in this endeavor. My sister has worked medical records before, but she wouldn't share at all. My aunt works in a doctor's office, but she has doctors' wives who insist on being in charge of such things. Still, she says she might be able to send me a set of four Zoloft mugs.
I might have a chance with my therapist. She might help me out. At the mental health center where I go, they've taken to putting out that ugly black pen on a chain. I guess there are too many of us treasure hunters out here.
Has anyone been bold enough to just ask one of the drug reps you've seen in the waiting area? I've been tempted, but never have felt that brave.
Oooooh! My next appointments (pdoc and therapist in one day) are on Valentine's Day. Maybe the holiday will inspire a little love and a lot of pens. Heh-heh-heh..... I've got to have something to look forward to at these appts. My pdoc has pretty much run out of any ideas on what to do with me, and I'm in the therapist's office so often we usually spend half the time discussing my latest knitting project. Oh, well. I know that they care and are trying their best.

And to think all these years that I was alone in the challenge and chase of the elusive, highly coveted med pens.
I know this funny sounding but lets start a collective of med pen swapping and mugs ect as give away items for med/diag. trivia games we can play…lol. Here is a hint to get them right from doc. Tell them they are a bit cathartic when you match the med to the time frame you are writing about when keeping the journals we get encouraged to by all of out therapists. Silly as it sounds, it actually works, too. I can get pens and I do think I get more "in touch" with what IBM writing about. Smile for the monitor, ~tony
