Short term relief

Posted by agencypanic on February 9, 2003, at 18:24:56

I just began taking 2mg/day risperdal for ppd and 10mg of Lexapro for depression.
I'm trying to get into a program that will provide me with some therapy as well as stable long term care,
but won't know about that for another week or so. In the meantime I'm at a loss as to how to deal with my paranoia.
Specifically I'm having problems with illusions-- believe that my neighbors and others are talking about me when they MAY not be etc.
I just can't seem to get beyond this and beyond caring about what others say about me in general. Does anyone have anything
that they can recommend, a method, technique, anything? I've done meditation in the past, but am simply too anxious at the moment
to sit still. Thanks.

Hello..
Oh sweet , I know kind of what you mean. I think you are doing the right thing now by posting here.
Do you don't have anyone in your life who you can trust to phone or maybe someone can call round to visit?
If not Beardy posted something about breathing excersises..hard to do when anxious..but it's a crumb as Miller would say.
You know it's in your head so if you can try to imagine a protective orange glow around you keeping the badness out and taking the negative and anxiety away leaving just peace -even if you are pacing about ..I usually talk and say go away I don't deserve this pain.
Other than that I cannot help but it will pass ...you know that.

Thank you. I'm really feeling persecuted of late and know that I bring it
on myself in part, but...
I don't really have anyone at the moment that I can talk to about this. I think that I've used up
my credit with my siblings, or they at least have their own problems to deal with.
I'd even consider wearing orange if I thought it would work. I wish I could stop caring about others opinions of me. Thank you for your reply-- it's almost like real interaction of a sort.
Well, you know what I mean.

It helps posting here-sort of.
Wearing orange..not a pleasant thought really well not in public but the Buddhists get away with it :-)

Yes, and in some cities/states so do you prisoners--although I guess
they didn't really get away with it.

I see that I unintentionally made you a prisoner-- sorry: prisoner's typing dilemma or something.

Hey... that above post just really reminded me of something that a friend of mine is going through. He hears voices all the time if he's not on his medication (Risperdal). Like not "scary" or "dangerous" voices... he just hears people talking about him all the time. He said it's kind of like they're making fun of him. He'll hear them coming from the TV set when he's watching TV, from the radio when he's listening to the Radio, and at night when he's falling asleep they talk so loudly that they keep him up. Right now he's been "voiceless" for about 3 years and the only medication that he's taking is Risperdal and, I believe, Paxil. He says that with those two he's at complete peace and feels pretty good.

I remember him telling me that once he started taking the Risperdal that the voices stopped within a month. That the dosage that he needed to keep the voices quiet was enough to knock him right out cold for about 12 hours a day for the first 2-3 weeks too. And that when he was awake, if they were bad, he knew that it was just in his head and would find something relaxing to do till they went away.

Anyways, hope that helps...

Thank you so much for this post-- it really does help somewhat, especially regarding the voices before sleep, because that's one of my critical areas at the moment.
Thanks Mikey_C
