About a week ago, I had a severe panic attack, with tachycardia, hyperventilation, tingling, chills and severe cramping and diarrhea. The next morning, I passed some bloody mucus. It traumatized the hell out of me. If the xanax had not kicked in, I thought I would die that night. I have had irritable bowel for years, and the doctor believes that the blood was probably from the severe stress on the colon from the attack. Has anyone else had such an experience. I will have precautionary tests done anyway, but would appreciate hearing from anybody else who has had attacks like this where blood was passed the next day or two.....thanks

Here's the cure:
Find out what's stressing you/bothering you, what you are fearing - stop the fear---stop the stress--stops the anxiety attack --- mind and body heal---listen to Deepak Chopra.

Ted,
Been there done that.
I recommend an SSRI to start with. They are great for these inconvenient disorders, including OCD, etc. Once you have IBS under control, then do exactly what Bruno suggested: Find the cause, treat it, then you can get off the SSRIs.

> Bruno and Ted, thanks for your response. I can get a lot of OCD when I'm stressed, and that is why I have had difficulty and much anxiety over passing of the Blood. I know that I probably have to go back on an SSRI because of the both the OCD and panic. Bruno, which Chopra book do you recommend??? Thanks a million for the responses..Ted R

One of the best things I have found for helping with the IBS is taking aloe vera tablets. You can find them at health food stores, and they do wonders for the pain. As for the cause - I believe it is mentally related, so what the others say about initially treating the symptoms, then find the cause is the best way.
Best of luck to you,
Rach
