Nothing more current than 2 years ago for me. But I have had it successfully as a treatment for 3 specific traumatic episodes. The modality had changed from hearing a tone in one ear and then the other, to having my knees lightly tapped, one in each turn.
The results in me have been profound. The therapist knows me well by now, but initially we had 5 sessions or so of just becoming really acquainted with each other and what my traumas were. I was never triggered during a session.PC

thnx pc for your reply.
appreciate it very much.
i am reading now that emdr is used more for ptsd than depression...
did you find emdr helpful in regards to your depression? i have pretty much straight depression, though i did suffer a traumatic loss when i was a child. (my dad died when i was 3.) that event i realize now has played a big part in me developing depression, though other factor/losses played a bigger role.
thnx again for your reply.

It had an immediate effect on my depression, insomuch that I had been ruminating about a particular past situation. I had felt that I just couldn't go forward, because I couldn't stop thinking about certain events in my past.
That is just my experience. You would really have to ask a trained EMDR counselor, certified in the treatment, to assess its helpfulness in your depression.
I wish you the best.
