I miss pdoc

Posted by Deneb on July 27, 2011, at 20:41:42

It's been like 2 months since I've seen her. I miss her. I wish she could be a part of my life. Why does she have to leave me?

I'm so angry about the whole lack of patient consent thing in our society. A horrible thought crossed my mind. I felt so angry that I kind of wished med students would all die. That's kind of evil of me to think. But I just feel this irrational anger.

I wish I could talk to pdoc about it.

Why has it been two months? Is she slowly transitioning you to not seeing her anymore?

Your thoughts are okay even if they are evil ... as long as you keep them as just thoughts.

Tell us what is going on with this relationship. I know she has been a rock for you.

Did I not confirm this post? I guess not.
For Deneb. I am reading Complications by Atul Gawande about his experience as a resident in surgery. It's not that comforting. Residents make mistakes, but they are supervised by attendings. On the other hand, one of the things he writes about is that attendings make mistakes too. We are all guinea pigs to teach residents, then to teach experienced doctors new procedures, then to deal with doctors who are having bad days or bad periods. It's complicated. Personally, I will only go to teaching hospitals. I realize I am dealing a lot with residents, but I also realize that the attendings are supervising them and are some of the best, most experienced docs in the business. If they weren't, they wouldn't be on the faculty of a teaching hospital.

I recently had a physical and most of it was carried out by a resident in internal medicine. He was nervous, but fine. My regular doc was with him the entire time.

She was going to be away for a while so one of my appointments had to be moved. She's away a lot. I think she is slowly transitioning me to not seeing her. She said I could see her like once a year or something and that my GP can take over prescribing my meds. :-(

I miss her a lot right now. :-(

I'm going to cry.

I wish Dr. Bob could comfort me.
