b2c:
YES I am getting a light box and my psychiatrist is getting it for me through my Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO. She got one before a year ago for another patient, same insurance. She has to write a letter, not sure of the exact process, but the insurance did try to get out of it, but she had that precedent of them approving one last year......so when the paperwork is done, BC/BS will tell me where to pick up my light box (somewhere local) and I will have a small co-pay.It's definitely worth a try if you have a persistent doctor and a good HMO/insurance. I'll post a message when I know more about mine.........my pdoc said it would take around a week to get it after paperwork goes through. It's for Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Glad to see you posting, b2c! I was also going to say that insurers like BC/BS would probably consider it if it were prescribed (I somewhat doubt they would otherwise, i.e. if you just went out and bought one on your own and then asked for reimbursement). Also if they turn down your request, even with your prescription, you can appeal. You and your pdoc can write letters about how it is necessary for your treatment plan. The BC/BS people can tell you what to do to file an appeal. I've actually found them to pretty helpful about that.Hopefully you'll not have a problem. Then you can buy whatever your T thinks will work best for you. Let me know how it works for you - I've thought for a long-time about getting one.
