Is CBT for everyone? So many rules they put on you . Good and bad experiences with CBT as I'm in it. Thanks Phillipa

CBT or DBT?
CBT is pretty all purpose.Good commonsense stuff. Takes awhile to learn the techniques, but it works I reckon.
DBT is a lot more structured and intense, done properly that is.
So CBT IS for everyone really, its just good sense really.
DBT, is only proly more for more stronger issues methinks.
Take care,
M

Well, I never was particularly partial to the approach, but the techniques can be really useful. I just need to have a lot of empathy and relationship-building in my therapy as well because of my trust and trauma issues.

Seriously since I lost my Mother at age l7 and she was sick from when I was two and blamed me for it I do need someone I that is a Mother figure for me. Never had that. I see one now but she is almost what you'd call a mean Mom and all the therapists just say get out and do something. I'm afraid to stay home now I've heard it so much. And getting older don't have the energy I did before. I do like to get out but if I can't do a lot for myself how can I volunteer? I feel I should be stable myself first. So what type of therphy with medicaire do you suggest if it's even available in Charlotte NC. Thanks Phillipa

Phillipa, what i hear from people ALOT, is that its more about 'fit' with the therapist, than style of therapy per se.
Definately different modalities are going to work better or worse for some, but even the best modality fit with the wrong T won't work, but a so so modality fit with a great therapist CAN work....
You should be able to feel comfortable and eventually safe with your T...

Muffled you are such a sweetie pie and what you say is so true. I've gone to so many and if it's fit haven't found one yet. The only one I felt that click with was in the ER one day and talked with the Social worker I think she was and surprising to me she was so young so young my real childrens age but I felt a bond. I asked if she saw patients and unfortunately no as she is employed by the hospital. I thought an older woman like me would be best but I was wrong again. Want to be my therapist? Love Phillipa

I have no idea how medicare works, and really don't know much about types of therapy. But I think a psychodynamic or an eclectic approach sounds like what you're looking for. Interview therapists as to what their style is, and if they say that, you might want to give them a shot. But the most important part is the fit of the relationship.
