How do you know?

Posted by Gee on March 10, 2006, at 13:18:37

How do you know if you're ready to talk about the things that have been hidden for so long? How do you know?

Because the thoughts float to the surface --- bringing it to your consciousness. It's still hard to talk about because the subject matter just is.

But that's what a good T will help you with. Letting you feel safe to talk about that hard stuff.

Try to let him/her help you with it. You will feel better just sharing those thoughts with someone.

Do you dream much? Sometimes when I am ready to talk about something it will show up first in my dreams.

Then I talk about the dream in therapy. It's a "safe" way to bring up something icky. Because after all, it was "just a dream"...

I think it just keeps comming up, and you get bothetred alot by it, and it just won't let up, and its messing up your life and your head. Then its most definately time to talk I'd say.
But I don't know much.
Hope it goes ok Gee, I like you.

Today, I told my t about some stuff that I haven't really told anyone. I'm not sure why I said anything, and now it just feels so overwhelming. I feel like I let out a vital part of me. Something that shouldn't be out there. Can I get it back? Can I just ignore it?

Sorry I didn't respond individually. I just can't right now. The more I think the more I panic

I don't think you can ignore it(willingly). That's why therapy is so important. It's a safe place for us to explore the dark corners of our brain. But it's HARD.

How often do you go? I know that once a week can seem like a very long time between sessions.

Even if you can consciously try to ignore the pain, it creeps back into our life in other ways.

Sorry you are in such pain right now.

I only go about once a week. I had an appointment yesterday, and then I don't go again until a week from Monday.

I don't know if I want to get into this stuff right now because I'm only here for another 6 weeks

You wanting to protect yourself sounds reasonable, especially since you only have 6 more weeks to work on these issues with your T.

I don't know you or your situation, so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt --- but deep psychological issues can take a few years to sort through (well, that is saying more about me than anyone else). I supposed other people have other experiences. But it takes time to reveal yourself, then more time to sort it all through and come to acceptance.

Good Luck. Now that you have shared some things, I would continue to share your worries with him/her. Make the most of your time.

Thanks Annierose.

I'll try talking it over with my t and see what she says. It's so hard moving between places for a few months at a time. But that's uni life for ya

Hey Gee. it's hard to 'pick' a good moment to talk about things you've never said before. i think that's why we react the way we do. our mind pushes it to the surface. it never feels good at first. it gets harder before it gets better. but my friend used to say 'just spit it out, throw it all up and sort through it later.' it's the throwing up part that's so hard but it need to just get out there. sometimes it's enough to just say it, other times you need to talk about something endlessly.

sorry there is so much pain for you right now. just know we are here for you.

Thanks B2C. The Throwing up part is hard. I also don't want to get into, then have to leave it for 8-9 months then maybe go back into it. You know?
