what habits and behaviours are essential to countering and eliminating laziness and interpersonally expoitative complaining behaviour. please, if there is anything beyond the typical "grow up and get a life". i hope i'm not being melodramatic by saying that it feels really dissmissive.

I have found that making a list of realistic and attainable goals helps to get me off the sofa. Thinking about all the things I "should" be doing just paralyses me into inaction. I don't think it's laziness as much as apathy, and it becomes a bigger problem - like everything else - when I am depressed.
So I try to chop tasks up into bite sized pieces; sometimes little morsels if necessary, and consider each little item crossed off my list a real victory. And a big pat on my own back for getting the smallest thing done.

i didn't understand this ? until grey responded, now i think i do.
i tend to get paralysed in inaction too, but i find just getting up, getting started gets me going. if you can bear it, something like flylady.com can be helpful for some for household things. i'm bad at the running around chores.
complaining? hmmmmm, tape recording yourself and then listening to it is more unbearable than most anything, it can stop you in your tracks for awhile. i hate to hear my own voice, let alone my screechy, whiny voice played back to me.fw
