i get scared sometimes when i feel very anxious or major depressed (or both) because i feel so weak (like anemic) and like i'm dying inside, my doctor checked me out and said i'm actually very healthy physically, and that i'm not in any danger of dying when i feel crappy from anxiety or major depression, he said anxiety and major depression will only make me feel very uncomfortable but they will not hurt me at the moment i'm feeling them
can anyone support what my doctor is saying to me?
i guess i need to know that others who suffer from anxiety and major depression are coping with it knowing that it's not hurting them physically
thanks all!

Acute depressive spells will not hurt you physically. Long term depression, depending on how you deal with, CAN lead to medical problems including obesity, diabetes etc.. but these are largely caused by how you deal with depression.
Acute anxiety is usually transient, and easily recovered from. Chronic anxiety weakens the immune system, can cause colitis, hypertension and can permanently raise the stress hormones (steroid based things).
As long as you have been checked out by a physician and there are no somatic causes of your anxiety/depression (Did you know that mitral valve prolapse can mimic anxiety disorder?) then you should be okay.
But get treated for your symptoms.

thanks madeline, yeah i got checked for everything (mvp, cortisol levels, etc) and i'm in better physical shape now than i was 5 years ago
so basically you're saying when i "feel" anxious/depressed i'm not in any danger of actually physically "dying" at that very moment even though it may feel like it
you seem quite confident in your reply, are you a physician or nurse or maybe you're going through or have gone through what i'm asking about
thanks again!
