Acute depressive spells will not hurt you physically. Long term depression, depending on how you deal with, CAN lead to medical problems including obesity, diabetes etc.. but these are largely caused by how you deal with depression.
Acute anxiety is usually transient, and easily recovered from. Chronic anxiety weakens the immune system, can cause colitis, hypertension and can permanently raise the stress hormones (steroid based things).
As long as you have been checked out by a physician and there are no somatic causes of your anxiety/depression (Did you know that mitral valve prolapse can mimic anxiety disorder?) then you should be okay.
But get treated for your symptoms.
