What do you think?

Posted by rainbowbrite on March 14, 2005, at 14:48:15

I started having anxiety problems and it is taking me over. I feel consumed by it, it hurts, it is giving me a terrible headache and it is making me feel very strange. Anyway my question is.... what have others done to control it while it is haunting you? I am not having much success right now on my own...So, should I start taking a benzo regualrly? Or just as needed? What is the best way to get a handle on it before it becomes way out of control? Will it just stay with me forever if I use benzos regularly? Or is there a better way with out drugs...that is immediate?

Thank you

I vote for the drugs. Then you can use the respite to figure out if anything in your life has changed and is causing you distress.

At any rate, I wouldn't suffer if a benzo as needed would help. You can always work on the cause when you aren't acutely in distress.

You could try walking.

When the flight or fight thing kicks in and causes anxiety, it can really help to flee, that is, walk. Fast. And it's a great way to think. If you need to figure out what's going on and you don't want to take the meds, walking and thinking can help.

When I can't walk, I take the meds.

Thanks guys,
I can't think clearly when I feel like that. You are right I should take the stupid pills if i need it! And then deal with things when I feel better.
Also walking is a great idea, I actually did have a short walk today and I didn't even realize until I look back that it helped a little. :-)

Hi,
Has a physical cause for your anxiety been ruled out? Anxiety is a common problem and people (physicians as well) tend to automatically assume it is psychological, but the "rare" exceptions to the rule need to be properly diagnosed.
Whirl.

Actually I am waiting on results becasue I was thinking the same thing. It is not like me to be like this. So I will find out soon hopefully. It would be great if it turns out to be something really simple to fix.

Thanks

I got a call for work this evening, didn't expect it so late, so I had to go rent a car, go find all the things I need for work, get everything prepped and then tomorrow must leave the house at 6am to be up the coast by 7.

I felt reallly scared. It's a big movie, and I'm working with a huge star. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK. I knew that I couldn't fight the fear, adn that if I was going to get done verything I had to do, I had to calm down. No time for a walk, so I took a clonazepam.

Time for bed now. I'm all ready, calm enough to sleep, and hope that tomorrow goes well.

So, there'sa concrete example for you.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me tomorrow that everyone is nice and that the actors are open to learning to do what I have to each them...
