Hi lilmsbubbles
You asked why weren't you told about transference when you started therapy. I've been thinking about starting a new thread on that one:
Before a doctor gives a treatment that might have powerful side-effects they're ethically obliged to warn you about the possible effects, right? Well therapy transference can have such HUGE effects on a person's life, more than many meds etc. And it seems to happen so often. So would it be a good idea if therapists had to warn clients about this possibility?
I think perhaps the reason why people don't walk away is maybe because it's those who most need their therapists (because of the biggest lack when they were small) who 'fall' hardest.
I feel sad and angry that your first therapy was so bad for you.
Would it help if you were to explain again to your new therapist that how you feel about your first t is getting in the way of doing anything about other issues? I don't know if that's a good idea, any suggestions, anyone?
Keep posting.

I am sorry this happened to you. It is scary that it can happen. Perhaps you can have a long discussion on transference and counter-transference with your new T. before you delve into therapy. Crookd heart has a good idea about starting a new thread on transference; And why not countertransference too? We all seem obsessed with our therapists, don't we? terrics

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon
The first time anyone refers to a book without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:

Thanks!
Bob

It is just terrible that your therapist should laugh at you. And just as bad to tell you that your feelings aren't real. Pardon me but there's only one person who knows how real your feelings are.
How can anyone say it's not not real, it's only transference when it might be the strongest most overwhelming way you've ever felt about another human being.
I don't know your story as I've only recently started posting to this board. What happened?
I'm sorry you're feeling so terrible.
This is the end of the thread.
