Don't know if this is the right place to post. I have suffered chronic major depression for several years. My symptoms were extreme sadness, slowed-down physically, excessive sleeping, and weight gain. All slowwwwwwww, all sad.
Now, I've got the opposite, kind of. Still bummed on occasion, but have TONS OF ANXIETY. Is this something like generalized anxiety disorder? Can I develop something like that at 36? I worry about EVERYTHING now, can't sleep, wake up with my mind racing about how to try and fix problems at work.
I can't figure out if it's situational -- bad times at work right now, drug related -- switched to Wellbutrin a couple of months ago, or a new problem.
Any ideas? It's really bothersome....

Don't know if this is it or not but some people develope mania or hypomania from AD's. Did this happen soon after you started on Wellbutrin? It doesn't mean that you have Bipolar Disorder. It just happens that some people develope mania or hypomania from some AD. And the signs are inability to sleep (but you don't have a need to sleep). So, when you wake after sleeping, do you feel like you had a full night's rest or are you dragging butt? Also, racing thoughts are common. All sorts of new ideas come into your head and you make plans to put them into action. I'm not sure if this is it or not. You might want to do a search and check into it. Just a suggestion.

I'd like some feedback on this. My pdocs have told me repeatedly that ONLY a Bipolar person will develop mania/hypomania on ADs. (I have tried repeatedly to question my BP2 DX with the same results: I will not give you ADs because you are BP. It's kinda a catch-22.)

Now I wish I could remember where I read it. I've read several cases where people have developed mania from taking ADs. I'm not exactly sure how rare it is. I'm sure if you do a search on google you'll find some hits.
Also, are you saying that you are Bipolar and your Pdoc won't give you ADs? It is safe to take AD if you're dx with Bipolar Disorder if you are still depressed and also taking a mood stabilizer at the same time. SOMETIMES. Some people can do it, some can't. I could. I was taking Lithium, Lamictal, and Lexapro all at the same time. And it didn't make me manic at all. But (being the evil and buzz seeking person I am) dropped the mood stabilizers and opted to just take the Lexapro for a while. Let's just say, I've since learned my lesson.
I'll check google myself and see what hits I get... I'll let you know..
Never mind the second part.. I reread what you wrote and I understand... I think. You are saying that you think maybe ADs caused you to become manic? Let me know...

Here is one page that makes reference to SSRI induced mania.. Sorry, had to cut and paste it because my eyes are buggy from reading the blasted computer screen. I'm on a mission to find out precisely where I found those "real life" stories. I'll be back with more sources later :)
