LYME question

Posted by honeybee on June 6, 2006, at 18:07:26

My right bicep seems to have sprung a rash that looks deceptively like Lyme. I have had Lyme ELISA studies before (they've come back negative) but never been treated (as an aside, my constellation of neuropsychiatric symptoms do seem like Lyme's, but they've been with me far longer than this rash has). Anyone have any advice?

Another aside: ironically, I'm on cipro for a rager of a UTI. Don't know if that could mitigate any of the spread of the bacterium. Here's to hope.

Not only do I have a question about what one does when the characteristic rash appears (any Lyme sufferers out there who might have done more research than I?), but also, what if these troubling, recurrent neuropsychiatric symptoms I've been having *are* Lyme's. If that's the case, then how would I get at dx when it may have been years and years and years after the fact?

My family, after all, does live in Indiana, in the woods. High deer population. We're popping ticks off our dogs left and right. Haven't ever seen a deer tick, but here's this rash, just after a visit.

Thanks to all knowers...

My suggestion is to trust yourself, and stamp your feet until you get attention.

The ELISA test is not perfect. I repeat. The ELISA test is not perfect. It can give a false negative. It assumes the specific antigen your body will make. Yours could differ. We are *not* all the same.

If you do have chronic Lyme's, then you very likely face some heavy duty antibiotic therapies. There are a lot of people who know all the details. I'm sure you can google that stuff up. I bet that link I just gave is a good starting point.

There's a lyme website I subscribe to free if you send me you E-mail via babble mail I will forward to you. I may have some deleted from today . And the Westen Blot is the only accurate one. You can have a false negative but not a false positive. I have chronic lymes. Love Phillipa
