Try a "body butter" product with lots of shea butter. It will help retain the moisture in your skin. Put it on right after you shower or bathe. Shea butter emuslifies close to our body temperature, so it feels good on our skin. It is a great comfort to have a moisturizer to sink right in to dry skin.
The Body Shop and Bath and Body Works carry these. They even help with the nasty cracked skin on the heels of your feet. I swear by these products - I shower often (twice a day) and rely on these types of products to keep my skin happy.

I second the suggestion to try body butter from the Body Shop. I love that stuff!
Eucerin Calming Cream is also VERY good. You can find it at most supermarkets and drug stores - at least around here you can.
Of course, I'm assuming you aren't talking about your face. I wouldn't put either of these on my face. If that's what you're needing, I'll have to give it some more thought. Off the top of my head, I'd suggest La Mer, but it's uber expensive.

I *adore* body butter.. I like to keep a couple of different "flavours" at home so i camn smell different depending on my mood.. The Shea one makes me smell chocolatey and nuttey and really yummy and warm *g*
For my face (which is really suffering this winter) I really like Cliniques Dramatically different moisterising gel (not the lotion, my face hates that, but adores the gel)..

Thanks for that information!
My son and husband have terrible skin cracks in the winter, or in dry days in warmer weather. I feel so sorry for them. I'll go get some of that today.

And thanks for that too. I wonder if they'll consent to wear something by Clinique.
Anyone have something for lips? My poor son's lip is split right down the middle.
Now mind you, it barely gets cold here during the winter, and humidity is always relatively high. I'm afraid if we move up north, my loved ones will crack right apart.

For sore, cracked lips in my opinion (as someone who is a) addicted to lip balms, and b) gets sore lips lots) the best is Carmex - http://www.carma-labs.com/ For some reason, its better in a squeezy tube than a pot (but then, it could just be me being wierd!)
The best lip balm for every day preventative usage, again imho, is Burts Bee's (yay, they finally sell it over here.. I was having to get it shipped over from the US in bulk *l*)

For face, I use the olay total effects day moisturizer. I may have the name mixed up. It is not cheap, but not super expensive. Somewhere in between. Does not make me break out or burn eyes if it gets in them by accident. Contains sunscreen. I am in my late 30s but most people mistake me for late 20s and I think that's is because I have always used sunscreen on my face. (Also genetic, but hey, I inherited depression, I may as well inherit some good stuf too! It's only fair!)
For hands, the Neutrogena swiss formula. It has a Swiss flag on the tube.
For body...I just use whatever drug store brand is on sale, I don't see a big difference. But for hand cream, springing for the Neutrogena swiss formula (it has to be the swiss formula) makes a noticeable difference.
However, Neutrogena face moisturizer irritates my eyes, so I can't use that.

I'll pass all this info along to my husband who is in charge of dry skin care.
This is the end of the thread.
