greetings.:) i am currently taking 50 mg of benadryl (2 tablets) and 10 mg of loratidine for allergies (until my doctor's appointment in a couple weeks).
i know i'm not supposed to take 2 benadryl tablets *and* the loratidine at the same time but i have to because i have trouble breathing due to allergies.
i think i am feeling less sharp mentally/cognitively cause of the benadryl...just a side note. but it is helping with anxiety as a nice side effect.:) another side note, there.:)
is it ok to take all this? both drugs are antihistamines (block the histamine response i think). the doc i made the appointment with said no, but didn't say why..
if anyone has any info, it would be *greatly* appreciated.
thanks!!:-)

If I was in your shoes, breathing trumps most considerations.
There is no fundamental biochemical reason that I can see that would make Benadryl contraindicated with Claritin (loratidine). No interactions.

yes...i realize my semantics are a bit off lol. i told ya i was cognitively affected lar! :-)
either that or careless.:) no, but seriously, on this medicine i find myself missing a lot of details and perhaps not thinking as clearly. i also feel a bit dizzy...> If I was in your shoes, breathing trumps most considerations.
yes, yes definitely!

hi amy,
I know Benadryl can make people sleepy sometimes, and others do use it as a relaxant.I find that it is EXCELLENT for my allergies, better than Claritin or other OTC drugs.
If you're feeling groggy/not yourself, it may be due to the Benadryl. I'd ask the doctor about that - maybe there's something else you can take?
Also - do you have blocked sinuses, sinus infection, or something else that might be inhibiting breathing? If you have an infection right now, due to allergies/etc., maybe an antibiotic is needed.
good luck!

Hey I know I am late to post this, but my vet told me to give my dog both of these for his allergies. So if it is safe for a dog, then, well, I am not going to say.
I think what you need to be careful about is the decongestants, don't double those.
This is the end of the thread.
