I don't know if it's Risperdal or stress, but I'm eating my weight every few days. And my belly is starting to hang over my waistband. It's horrible. And if I try to stop eating, I get so distracted and irritable that I can't maintain not eating. It's almost impossible for me to feel full. I'm having to eat and eat and eat to feel at all satisfied.
It's really horrible. I feel absolutely voracious.

Risperdal or stress can cause this, its probably both , more the med tho. Really, just eat the right foods and your okay. Eat broccoli, spinach, veggies, fruits, nuts and lean meat all day.. you will be healhty. Stay away from bad carbs and crap food.

Hi Dinah,
It's probably the medicine. Do you have seasonal affective disorder (SAD)? Some SAD sufferers experience increased carbohydrate craving as well as increased depression at this time of year.
And don't forget, you've just been through several MAJOR traumas.
You'll probably be angry with me for suggesting this, but I'm going to suggest it anyway because it helps me so much. . . If you are able to exercise for about 30 minutes a day (brisk walking is fine; you don't HAVE to go to an expensive health club), that will probably relieve a lot of the anxiety that contributes to overeating.

maybe try drinking a lot of water in the day and it may help fill you up. Or munch on those baby carrots all day.
I agree its most likely the med.

hi Dinah,
are you craving carbs? Or just anything tasty?I personally believe that many people turn to carbs b/c eating carbs temporarily increases serotonin and gives a "feel good" rush.
If your body balance is off b/c of meds, stress, sleep cycle disruption, it's possible that you're trying to have "good feeling brain" and eating lots of starches and carbs does it, even though it's temporary and even though in the long run, it's making you feel worse.
But even though I believe that's true, I don't necessarily have any good suggestions (as in, "good" because they lead to ME losing weight) on how to counteract it.
I know that when I'm in my thinner periods, it's when I'm exercising daily for 1 hr at the gym, treadmill and elliptical machine, taking the dog for a rigorous walk daily, and actively trying to avoid Doritos and dip and Snickers & stuff. Now I can't claim to be an expert at this, b/c I'm still a size 18/20.
But I do believe that exercise helps tremendously, at least for me. Even getting up and doing a huge rigorous all-day house-cleaning, where I sweat bullets onto the floor, sometimes helps jump-start me into a SLIGHTLY more exercise-filled broccoli-filled and slightly dorito-deficient mode.
good luck.
please let us know how it's going.JenStar

I'm eating some of everything, but the concentration seems to be on salty/sour and carbs. So I attack pickles with the same enthusiasm as my current favorite of potato skins.
I'm feeling a bit better lately, so I think I'll try slowly backing off the Risperdal a bit. This was never intended to be permanent. I'll see if that helps the voracious appetite any. It's funny, because the tiny dose of Risperdal I used to be on made me feel like skipping meals. But the larger dose seems to make me feel like eating anything and everything.

PMS? That'll certainly cause carbohydrate craving, bloating, etc.
If so, this, too, shall pass.

Dinah,
Just saw this thread after I posted to you on our old "weight loss" thread above. I don't get to the computer much these days. Take care!
