I am concerned about my lungs ciggarettes

Posted by rjlockhart98 on October 27, 2005, at 21:11:50

I have been smoking lately, not a pack a day, usally 1/3 of one.

But I realize when i do the lawn, or wax my car, I get out of breath, and i am really worried, I know the logical awnser is to just quit. But with family HELL, my mother is absolutly a borderline maniac, STOP! I CANT TAKE THIS ANYMORE, and i am not doing ANYTHING. I mention medication to her she goes balistic.

Listen, how long does it take for smoke to effect lungs?

I cant belive, ciggarettes really feel trashy but, i, its the only way i feel to get out, or away.

Can someone help me?

I quit smoking 2 years ago, then started again, but when I quit the lozenges helped, and well you could always replace the cigarettes with those. You'd have to check the statistics yourself but I have read that even after 20 years of smoking, if you quit, within 10 years your lungs are back to normal. If you don't quit soon enough though you have emphysema which can't be reversed. Sometimes I feel like cigarettes are my only friend, even though when I wasn't smoking I dealt fine and felt better physically. It really is the psychological dependence that's the hardest part.

you used to run eh?
you still doing that?

what it tells me on the pack is that:

EVERY CIGARETTE YOU SMOKE IS DOING YOU DAMAGE

or at least thats what it says when it isn't saying:

YOUR SMOKING CAN HARM OTHERS

or:

SMOKING KILLS

or:

SMOKING WHEN PREGNANT HARMS YOUR BABY

(Thats my favourite 'cause I'm not pregnant)

But really... Yeah. Cigarettes are bad. As I'm sure you know. And you will feel out of breath more.

Mints can be good. Those strong ones.

But yeah... I think you are as good as new (well nearly lol) after 7-10 years.

But...

Thats 7-10 years from now
If you stop NOW.

Let me know how you do... Mmm. I have to say that cigarettes are one of my very real pleasures in life...

;-)

But those adds on TV (we have graphic ones of smokers arteries all gooped up and how much tar they find upon autopsy and all sorts of other goodies)... I have to say that those adds on TV make me feel nervous...

I have lost 3 members of my immediate family to smoking related diseases: emphysema, lung cancer, cancer of the mouth. I can't believe that I ever smoked cigarettes at all. Genetic markers or not, I see plenty of reasons every day not to smoke.

>Can someone help me?

well does it help to know that smoking can kill?

do you want to take that chance? :-0

that girls are really turned off it (unless they smoke and even some smokers)?

that you could get tongue cancer, throat cancer, emphasima, lung cancer, chronic bronchitis and cause anxiety just to name a few?

And any or all of these could happen in a split second at any time in your life! The earlier you quit the better! But you have to do it. try to cut back a little.

Hi Matt

It is exactly one month today that I quit smoking, for the third time!!

I quit for all the reasons already mentioned as well as a number of my own. Sadly, I didn't quit because I actually *wanted* to. It was more a question of *having* to.

Smoking became utterly inconvenient what with having a non-smoking home and with every single public place prohibiting it anyway. Not to mentioned that I couldn't bear to be seen smoking.

So I enjoy the "freedom" of not smoking - but I would be lying if I said I didn't miss it - or think about it every single day.

After almost a year of not singing - I am at least able to hold my long notes again and I get fewer sores on my tongue. I am sure my lungs still look like an old road!

I know the feeling of "getting out - or away". Smoking was such an outlet!! But not one that is worth it in the end.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Sabrina

Used to smoke when I drank beer. If I smoked at any other time I became very dizzy. I wonder why? So when I quit drinking beer or wine I stopped the cigarettes. The one thing they did do was medicial. Never worried about constipation. Fondly, Phillipa
