Regarding diabetes, how is this typically triggered?
I stay relatively active, am at a moderate/thin weight, and drink and smoke occasionally. However, I drink a lot of Gatorade, say four or five bottles per night (~500 calories' worth). Would this put me at increased risk? I eat a lot at night, snacking etc., and now I'm freaking out I may be leading myself down a road to diabetes...

Genes. And/or pigging out for many many years.

No. You can't increase your risk just by consuming simple carbohydrates.

> amdYou like to freak yourself out, eh? Seriously, and I repeat, your obsessive thinking is a greater risk to your health than anything in particular you obsess about. That would best be where you focus your attention. You could benefit a great deal from some adaptive cognitive-behavioural therapy. You can learn how to short-circuit these obsessive thoughts. The elastic-band around the wrist is an example. The thoughts come, and you snap the band. It stings, and brings a moment of clarity.
I'm not expert on OCD. I'm not sure of the best ways to handle it. But I hope you put some of your energy into breaking that vicious circle.

If you can turn some of your anxious/obsessive energy towards self-care and health promotion, you can really make use of this motivation/drive that you have.

Excuse me, but I am reading your post, and thought you might be interested in a book written by Jeffery M. Schwartz, M.D. called, "Brain Lock".
Larry's rubber band idea, reminded me of this book, and I think it could help you. I have it, and read it on behalf of my daughter, who had a binge eating disorder. You can do this! -L
