Does anyone know a good medication for IBS with diarreah promidant? I tried Bentyl but that didn't work and Levsin (hyoscyamine)only works a little.

You might consider a very low dose of a tri-cyclic such as doxepin(sinequan), imiprimine(Tofranol) or possibly a very low dose of amitryptaline(sp?) aka Elavil!
Good Luck

Dicetel (pinaverium bromide) works like a charm (for me). Available widely, except in US. Sorry, if that's where you live. http://www.solvaypharma.ca/en/products/HCP/dicetel.asp
The FDA permits medically authorized importation of agents which treat disorders for which no FDA-approved treatment already exists. This drug qualifies, AFAIK.
The FDA rules covering importation are here:
http://www.fda.gov/ora/compliance_ref/rpm_new2/ch9pers.htmlIf your doctor imports a drug for your treatment, that is the best possible route. Second best would be a letter from your doctor, to accompany the drug during shipment.

One thing that can really help is yogurt because it contains Acidophilus bacteria. These are normally present in your digestive system. Some medications and even some foods can destroy these bacteria and rapid digestion can be a result. You would have to eat a dannon or breyers yogurt with the Acidophilus every other day for a week to see an improvement but that might only amount to 3 cups of yogurt.
The other alternative is Acidophilus pills which are usually available at drug and health food stores.

I don't think yogurt helps because I am lactose intolerant and many people with IBS cannot eat dairy food. It just upsets your GI tract even more. I guess a healthy restrictive diet is the only way to go because meds never seem to work.

Immodium doesn't work for you? I don't leave home without it. (I can't really.)
My doctor gave me some NuLev (hyosycamine sulfate), but I haven't worked up the courage to try it.

I also have tried levsin, bentyl, and numerous other things. Do you get pain with your IBS? What about Zelnorm? I haven't tried that but I heard that is good. I get horrid pain with my IBS and I now take Librax and a low dosage 50 mg of Desipramine.

Does peppermint oil work for it? It's sold here in pharmacies. I've seen a product that combines this with, I think, carroway seed oil. It was ridiculously expensive. Maybe you could use such herbs (don't know how you'd use the peppermint) in your cooking.
