Sugars were bad. Cholesterol was bad.
Not horrible, but bad enough that she threatened me with new medications if I don't take my fish oil regularly and lost ten to fifteen pounts.

I won't say a word about the sugar, but will say something about the cholesterol:
My cholesterol is quite high, but the ratios are good, so my GP doesn't worry about it. He is also aware -- hallelujah! -- that some eating disorders cause elevated cholesterol.
The point being, the reason for the elevated cholesterol is as important as the numbers themselves, when it comes to treating it. And the ratios count, too.
Hope that helps...

I'm sorry Dinah,
I'm in pretty big trouble too. I MUST start taking that blood pressure medicine tomorrow. It is way, way, too high and all my panic about having to take it isn't helping. The accupuncture doctor treatened not to treat me today because it was so high. (I am in a clinical trial for knee arthritis) He was afraid I was going to stroke out on him.
I've been having trouble taking my fish oil, too. I seem to be crampy and bloated. Let's just say my stress is killing me and at this rate I'll never be in good enough shape to start the psych drugs I need for depression.
I hope you have a wonderful time on the Babble trip. I need to lose much more than 15 pounds, but at least I've made a start at it!
Hugs,
MidnightBlue

When my husband and I first started taking it, we both had a fishy taste in our mouths, and (warning: this might be an overshare) both fish burps and fish f*rts. NOT a real fun couple...
It went away pretty darned quickly, though. I can't remember when the last time either of those things happened -- but let's not discuss asparagus f*rts, 'k? -- and any reflux we might have had is gone. That was mild at first, but gone quickly.
If you're having trouble with fish oil because of those things, give it the ol' college try, because it might go away sooner than you think.

It's mainly the triglycerides, which are tied to the sugar. She had to take me off Lipitor because something or another was elevated, but was about to put me on something else when I begged for another chance.
I don't mind the fish oil. I just forget to take it, because it's not with my other medicines. I'll have to remember to get a larger pill box (am I getting old or what) and put the fish oil capsules and the baby aspirin in that.
And diet and exercise. (scowl)
And probably substitute Topamax for Depakote, at least for a trial, because I think the increased Depakote is making me gain weight.
A sorry state of affairs for someone who thinks less is more in the way of medications.

Congratulations on making a start! I really need to lose over fifty to be at a healthy weight, but she'll settle for fifteen.
My husband is on the medication for high blood pressure. He hasn't had any trouble with it, and it's actually made him easier to live with because he used to be so stressed over his high blood pressure. :)
I'm looking forward to the trip, but I'm a bit scared too. You won't be able to make it?

Dinah,
No, I can't go. I am in crummy physical shape, live too far away, I'm dead broke, and I'd be scared to death. I guess that's enough reasons for not going! LOL
Good luck with your "diet" maybe we could encourage each other. I have quite a bit of weight I need to lose. When I am depressed I tend to medicate myself with food and full sugar sodas. If I'm not careful I could end up diabetic, too. I do blame a good bit of my weight on depakote I took for migraines.
Thanks for answering me.

Dinah,
I haven't had much luck with fish oil for depression, but I continue to take it because it's supposed to be healthy. I would recommend Nordic Naturals omega-3 capsules. They are the only ones I've tried that don't cause fish burps.

I have a thread somewhere in the archives about my weight loss. Sort of a weekly weighing in. I'll try to restart that.

For some reason I've never had trouble with fishy burps. Geesh, my breath must be pretty bad to begin with. :)
I started being faithful today and gave my husband permission to nag. So I guess I'll probably be taking it regularly from here on in.

Dinah,
Because Nardil only comes in 15 mg tabs, I have to carry around a bunch of pills. I also take calcium, a multivitamin, and magnesium. Since I take thyroid meds too, I have to space out when I take what, to get optimum absorption. So I have those stackable pill boxes with one for each day of the week. I fill it at the beginning of the week, and then each day put the day's pill box in my bag.I also set my Palm Pilot to go off at the times I need to take something. It's the only way I could manage a four times a day regimen.
