Please let us know if this is ok with you. You have many requests, and I cannot think of another way than to get all of your question together for you. I hope everyone will use this to make things easier, and save you some time.
I have yet, another question (you knew it was coming) Here goes: My daughter is taking Topamax, Wellbutrin, and Adderall for bipolar II. As I stated before, not much has changed for her and was getting some great advice from you. My mother told me last week, that my dad's sister, brother, and his brother's two daughters have thyroid trouble and are taking medication. My father has been on thyroid medication for 20 years, and my brother has been taking medication for his thyroid for two years. How does that sound to you? My daughter had her thyroid tested (MP3, MP4?) and it was normal. Do you think it is possible that she could still have something wrong anyway? Her weight won't budge despite any diets, and the combination of meds really won't help the up and down of the bipolar type behavior. Her psychologist thinks that there may be something to this, and wants me to bring it up to the psychiatrist. I don't know it he will try giving her a thyriod med. I have a strange hunch, this isn't right. Six people on my fathers side of the family? I have no problems right now, but I'm waiting for something to come up someday, now. Have you thought about changing your major? Double major? I feel very blessed to have stumbled onto this page and found such a helpful person such as yourself! -L

Kind regards,
Ed.

Ed,
The test came back 2.22, and the nurse says it's normal. Her psychologist is still saying he thinks her hormones aren't right, and I feel like she's stuck.-L

Hi L,
The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists has recommended that the 'normal range' for TSH should be between 0.3 and 3.0. Can your daughter see an endocrinologist??
Regards,
Ed.

Thank you, do you mind if I ask you where you found that information? Yes, I will take her to see one. Very interesting. I knew there was something we were not being told. -L

Ed,
I have one more thing to add:
At 2.22, would that be hypo, or hyper thyroid? I am having a hard time understanding the ranges, which I did find on the internet after I sent you the previous message. Thanks.-L

Hi L!
>Thank you, do you mind if I ask you where you found that information?
I took it from the website of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.........

>At 2.22, would that be hypo, or hyper thyroid?
2.22 is within the 'normal range' of 0.3 to 3.0. Nevertheless, if you believe that your daughter may be suffering from a thyroid condition it could be useful to see an endocrinologist.
Regards,
Ed.

With the wt gain I would think hypo even though she tests normal. Could it be the meds? Fondly, Phillipa

I really don't think so, because she was this way before the meds. He psychologist was thinking hormones because the topamax wasn't really working all that well as a mood stablizer. She has since then increased her dosage, and it's working better. Hair is continuing to fall out. Can anyone help with that?-L
