> jFirst off, you must be speaking in terms of micrograms, mcg (or µg). 1 miligram is 1000 micrograms.
The cost of the active ingredient (cobalamin) is trivial, because the dose is so tiny, in either size of pill you're looking at.
There is no known toxic dose of B12. I'm not saying you can chug a bottle a day....just that there is no known toxic effect or overdose level for B12.
What *is* important is that you realize that B12 is one of a team of vitamins. It can *cause* health problems if you don't supplement the rest of the team at the same time.
So.....
Take a B-complex (yes, it will have some B12 in it). But, you can safely add B12 on top of the B-complex, whereas taking B12 alone might cause some problems in B6 metabolism (which might cause some problems with B3 metabolism).....and so on.
So, take whatever dose of B12 you wish to (might as well have the bigger dose, for the same money), but take it with a B-complex.

B Vitamins do not aborb very well in your intestines. Not sure about the exact number but a nutrionist once told me 5% or 10% of the B vitamins you take are actually absorbed into your system, your intestine has a hard time.
Some B Vitamin supplement are actually made at
25,000 to 50,000 FDA Recomended Percent Daily doseI dont know how much you are taking but this might help.
