I thought I remembered from my son's earaches that he felt better right away.
This is only day two. So maybe I'm being a bit impatient.
I hate being sick. I am a huge baby about pain.

Usually in 24hours. But they're saying kids are becoming immune to them as they're given them so often. Call the doc. Fondly, Phillipa

I am a huge baby about pain.I don't know exactly why you're taking an antibiotic, but a general rule of thumb is that the patient should respond by the second day (third at the outside), or the wrong antibiotic is being used. Details matter, though. (All general rules have exceptions.) I'd call your doctor's office.

Or so the doctor thinks.
I think she's off tomorrow. No after hours service at all. And I have an appt with the gi specialist Monday. So I suppose I'll have to gut it out (pun halfway intended) even if it doesn't start working. I'm hoping it'll start working.
No fever or anything. And it's been like this, off and on, since Saturday. So it must not be dangerous. Just really annoying and interfering with my work.
WOE is meeeee.
My father was right. Bodies do fall apart at age forty.

Dinah,
MANY years ago when I was in my 20s I had an attack of something they thought was diverticulitis. The doc even said he thought he could feel an abcess in my lower colon with a digital rectal exam. It was just beyond his "reach".
Now this was NOT a great doctor and I am one of the ones who didn't want to have tests. :-) Anyway I was on massive doses of tetracycline that caused me to break out in a rash. And as I recall I was on it for WEEKS because every week he would check to see if it was better.
Bottom line (oops sorry about that!) I finally got over the rash and itching when I stopped the antibiotic. I didn't realize it was a drug reaction. The supposed abcess got better after SEVERAL weeks. I NEVER went for any colon tests because I didn't want to and was in a really small town with so-so doctors, and I haven't really had any trouble since! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Even though I've been sick with food poisoning the last week. I'm sorta better but still scared to eat much.
So even if you are on a new high powered antibiotic, I think it might take longer for a colon thing.
(Hugs)

This is one of those exceptions. Some of the symptoms are due to infection, whereas others are due to inflammation.
Tylenol or ibuprofen might help, too. I know people never think of this, but both can work for a stomachache, as well as a headache.

I felt halfway human today for the first time in a week.
I used a lot of Advil, which didn't seem to help much. But I guess I wouldn't know, because what would I have felt like without it?
Anyway, I'm beginning to suspect I'll live. :)
Just need to be careful about eating for a couple more days.
This is the end of the thread.
