Dinah,
MANY years ago when I was in my 20s I had an attack of something they thought was diverticulitis. The doc even said he thought he could feel an abcess in my lower colon with a digital rectal exam. It was just beyond his "reach".
Now this was NOT a great doctor and I am one of the ones who didn't want to have tests. :-) Anyway I was on massive doses of tetracycline that caused me to break out in a rash. And as I recall I was on it for WEEKS because every week he would check to see if it was better.
Bottom line (oops sorry about that!) I finally got over the rash and itching when I stopped the antibiotic. I didn't realize it was a drug reaction. The supposed abcess got better after SEVERAL weeks. I NEVER went for any colon tests because I didn't want to and was in a really small town with so-so doctors, and I haven't really had any trouble since! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Even though I've been sick with food poisoning the last week. I'm sorta better but still scared to eat much.
So even if you are on a new high powered antibiotic, I think it might take longer for a colon thing.
(Hugs)
