I have what most would say a reasonably good diet, I eat alot of fruit etc, take daily high potency vitamin, I drink alot of water etc etc, I am not smoker/drink
MY QUestion is: Everyday I drink coffee mixed in between meals up threee tall cups. Isn't this flushing out, depleting all the good things I eat like Vitamins/fruit etc, I mean coffee is a diruretic it makes you pee??????????

Night Owl,
You don't need to worry about "flushing out" the nutrients by drinking coffee. True, coffee does have a diuretic effect but this will not excrete out the vitamins and nutrients that your body has already absorbed.

Dont I have to give the good stuff time to absorb before I drink a soda or coffee, like if I eat some fruit or take my daily vitamin and then just drink a big cup of coffee 15 minutes later. Usually I wait 1 hour but what do you think???

This board is more about eating DISORDERS, not so much health related concerns.
That said, no, your coffee really isn't a concern in terms of nutrients. As long as you stay hydrated, which the water and some starchy carbohydrates will ensure, you can drink a few cups of coffee without fear.
Here's the basic rule: Moderation in all things. A MODERATE amount of coffee won't hurt you. A MODERATE amount of alcohol won't hurt you (unless it triggers you to consume an IMmoderate amount.) A MODERATE amount of cake and ice cream won't hurt you.
As long as you're not downing a three POTS of coffee per day, you're probably doing just fine. ;-D

Coffee will dehydrate you but I don't think it depletes vitamins. Many people drink coffee after a hefty meal to speed up their metabolism (caffiene) and help with digestion of the food that was just eaten.
This is the end of the thread.
