Mail-order source for magnesium?

Posted by Ilene on July 19, 2004, at 16:48:52

I can't get out of the house right now, and I'm out of magnesium. Does anyone know of a good mail-order source for a non-magnesium oxide formulation? (I.e. magnesium citrate or maleate, etc; *not* magnesium oxide)

Thanks

iHerb.com has it. They're wonderful to deal with - great prices and fast delivery too. I've used them for quite a while now. (Quite a few others on these boards use them as well.)

One word of advice: be specific and type in "magnesium citrate" or "magnesium maleate" rather than just "magnesium" when you do your search though. Otherwise, you'll be searching through far too many calcium/magnesium products.

Good luck,
Kara

I've read that the best or most easily absorbed form of magnesium is magnesium glycinate. Solgar makes this form. I think it says "Chelated Magnesium" on the label. Perhaps you could do a search on that brand and order it by phone or over the Internet. I've seen it in specialty pharmacies and health food stores. I've never seen it in chains like CVS, Rite Aid or GNC.

Good to know! I just checked and iHerb does carry it by Solgar but only in 100 mg. strength. There are a couple of other brands of it there as well.

Did it say 100mg strength or was the quantity 100 tablets? I think the one I'm referring to (the Chelated Magnesium with magnesium glycinate) had 400 mg of magnesium in it.

Both 100 mg. and 100 tablets. I didn't see the 400 mg. strength in the Solgar. Perhaps VitaminShoppe or one of the other good on-line stores have it.

Thanks for your replies

My husband found some magnesium citrate at a store around the corner from his office. Following up on the magnesium glycinate/chelated magnesium seems like a good idea, though, esp. since I think magnesium citrate is the same as Milk of Magnesia. Not something I need.

I.
