I've been really achieving flow at work, but only when sipping sugar filled drinks. Caffeine doesn't do it. If I don't have my biggie drinks I'm way less efficient. But with steady sips of sugar throughout the day, I am one with the work. I'm totally focused and energized. So I wonder if mental energy requires sugar?

Well, your brain does run on glucose, but I don't think that means you have to have sugar drinks. I'll give you some possibly annoying motherly advice. I used to drink soda all day long, since it seemed it was the only thing that kept my mood and energy up. Well I finally got off it, and make sure to have protein snacks, whole fruit and drink lots of water instead of the soda. I feel better, my appetite has gone down, and I sleep better at night. All that sugar was not really the friend I thought it was. I felt like absolute cr*p for a couple weeks during the transition.

Dinah you know I cannot pass this up....youre a diabetic and please leave the refined sugar alone..if you want to feed your brain.,..give it a high fiber carb piece of wheat bread or some protein the body and brain will convert it. Now I have nagged you into a healthy snack style :) cause I care.... You really need to test those sugars youre most likely hiting very high highs or some lows to crave sugar like this.

Didn't work.
My brain just works best at peak demand and high performance fueled by....SUGAR! Not a lot at once, but a little - steadily.
So in the end I took my job over my health. Plus it was really fun to feel confident and energetic and smart for a while.
But I got the hardest part of the work done and next week should be easier. Which means no peak performance and no flow, and no sugar drinks. :)
This is the end of the thread.
