Was Christ's life based on pagan myths?

Posted by Maximus on July 11, 2005, at 17:18:34

I'm reading this fabulous book, to say the least. Bible would be a "copy" of ancients Egyptian books...

Hi Matt,

Maxime leaved for another Province of Canada. She got a very good job there. She was living in the same Province of mine, Québec. Here stops the similarities between us.

I think she will never post here again. She made it pretty clear. No CPU at home. She doesn't want to reach the board from work. And if she failed - i'm sure not but - we will never know because she will be "gone" :-( That is what she said.

I hope it's clear. Good luck.

You seemed to have a lot of questions about Christianity in the thread that began with: Another Prayer ask.... rjlockhart98 7/3/05. I thought you might enjoy finding a lot of answers in this particular book.

Do you practice any kind of religion? I'm just curious. You don't have to share that if you'd rather not.

Hi Crasy T,

I know you tease me, but i would be glad if you don't call me a satanist anymore ;-)

Thanks for the link. But there is even no proof of the physical existence of Jesus. There is no historian - at that time - who mention the name of Jesus. All the gospels have been written between 90 and 110 AC. Even the Catholic Church admits this fact.

So all remain in the faith. And i don't have it. My scientific mind does not give any place, any need, for such a thing like god or faith.

However i have the HIGHEST consideration - really - for those who have the faith. Because younger i have been a believer - before the knowledge.

Good day :-)

Maximus, my new friend -

You are mistaken. Many through the years have attempted that same claim... that Jesus didn't exist.

But He did.

As my old friend Lou (not that he's old, but we've been friends for a while now), pointed out... Josephus - a famous Jewish historian - mentions Jesus in no uncertain terms, more than once.

(Thanks, Lou, for beating me to the post!)

Yes, He did exist. Whether you believe that He's who He claimed He is... the Son of God, is a matter of faith.

I also highly recommend Lee Strobel's books, both "A Case for Christ", and "A Case for Faith".

Strobel, an ex-investigative reporter for the Chicago Tribune, was a former skeptic, who set out to DIS-prove the existence of Jesus, and to debunk His claims. He came, instead, to believe. His books go into depth about his search... a most compelling story, to say the least.

In the end, there is no "proof" -- otherwise, there's no need for faith.

But they're certainly worth the time to read them. If only to explore your concept that He never literally lived ...

Shalom, Dena

Thanks to you Lou by providing this link. I appreciate that though i already knew this Josephus.

From the link you have provided to me - it is mentioned that:"He was born in 37 CE, only a few years after Jesus' execution". Josephus, having not been alive during jesus' purported lifetime, could not possibly have offered "testimony" as to his historicity. Josephus, as an historian, is something of a puzzle sometimes. Did Josephus write, referring to Jesus, that "He was the Messiah?" We don't know.

Am i a wiser man for that? No. Do i need to be saved? No.

Now as usual this kind of subject has no issue. By respect, i will not contribute anymore to this thread. By these times i don't have the energy to talk about quantic mechanic or about the superstring theory.

I wish you a good quest my friends.

Before you leave, know this, that I absolutely know that Jesus Christ is the literal Son of God, and that he lives, as much as I know I am writing this to you, and as much as I know that I live. I have absolutely no doubt. Although I have not seen him, I have been in a room with him and felt his presence. But even that did not convince me any more than I already knew. He lives. I'll dance on it. He lives.

Your comment about Josephus not knowing Jesus is right. Jesus is not known by anyone, but through the spirit, and even though secular knowledge can't teach you how it works, and you don't understand how it works, faith is real, the spirit is real, and through faith the spirit can teach you all things!

Maximus --

I find it interesting that you would make two rather provocative claims (that Jesus' life was based on pagan myths; and that Jeus never really lived), which are surely knowingly insulting to a great many people who belive in Jesus and follow Him, and then bow out - respectfully - when evidence was given to you to refute your claims...

How respectful was it to make those charges?

It's my understanding that this site does not allow for putting down other religions...

however, when someone is allowed to claim that my Savior was a pagan myth, and that He never even lived -- lemme tell you that smacks loudly of a "put down".

And yet, it's not admonished by the moderators here.... interesting.

It would seem that all religions/faiths here are protected and respected except for one: Christianity.

It would be ironic, wrong, and yet not completely unexpected, if THIS very post were blocked, and I were admonished for pointing this out... we shall see.

Shalom, Dena

That's because it's politically incorrect to have Christian values in our society. And darlin', we ain't seen nothin' yet! :~{

Oh, yeah. THAT I know.

I'm just wondering what the official rationale is here on PBF for the inequality...

I've radically changed the ways I discuss my faith here... to ensure that I never promote my own faith above anyone else's, and to never say, or imply that something is wrong with someone else's chosen faith.

However, I regularly see "pot-shots" taken against Jesus and Christianity (as well as some directed toward Judaism), and they seem to be allowed unchecked.

Speaking as someone who's been blocked more than anyone else (my last block being for 32 weeks) ... I wonder why this is?

I also wonder whether this question will be answered...

Shalom, Dena

Not sure how proud I am of it... as I didn't honor Jesus in the unloving way in which I promoted Him...

But first, I was warned...

Then, I got one week blocked...

Then, I got two weeks blocked...

Then, I got four weeks blocked...

Then, I got eight weeks blocked...

Then, I got sixteen weeks blocked...

Then, I got thirty-two weeks blocked...

(you notice a trend here...?)

That's a grand total of 63 weeks blocked altogether (more than an entire year, if combined).

If it happens again, I understand I'll be given sixty-four weeks of being blocked...!

I've been working hard to avoid that!

Shalom, Dena

Maybe I should've said something, I'm sorry if I wasn't supportive. But I thought that they were more provocative than uncivil and that the situation wasn't escalating.

Can you, however, think of a response to provocation that would be less provocative than calling it "surely knowingly insulting"?

You would've been before, but now it's capped at 1 year...

Thanks, I do appreciate that.
