Dirt Farmer Folly

I fell for the hype and catalogue descriptions for "Dirt Farmer Wisdom" and bought it. Big disappointment.

Everything of interest was already in the sales pitch. It sounded like a book of old-time dirt farmer venacular but turned out to be an uninspired collection of memories and photos of family rural life.

"Don't get angry, mend the fence", is passed off as some sort of wise and original saying from yesteryear.

What a rip-off. It's an undersized book with big print and little contect. All fluff, no substance. I made a note of the publisher and won't fall for a slick ad again. Does give me hope though that if this can be published, any writer has a chance.

I wanted to warn people since I had referred to it in a thread on the admin board.

I was desperate for a reading fix and bought the Michael Crichton paperback of "State of Fear".
As I read it, I felt like I landed on a planet not of this universe. The premise of the book is interesting and challenging (I'm being polite here). The plot itself, though, is baffling to try to follow. I cannot believe how the author has used little cookie cutters for his character development. It was an utter disappointment.

I should have known better than to expect something good to read at CVS beyond the back of a tissue box...
