Impulse buying

Do you do more impulse buying on line or in the store? I find that once I have a book in my hand I keep looking at the others on the shelf and take a few more. On line I have been control.

Anyone else?

Totally!! I nearly blew all I had in the book shop today.. but luckily managed to put the others back when my colleague reminded me of my poor status!!

Plus, I'm doing this sponsored thing later in the week I need my pennies for!

Guilty as charged, hee hee!
I'm much worse online than in person, where I can get fed up standing in queue and just chuck everything that I'm holding. Or sometimes if I look down and rethink my purchases, I'll put things back and become suddenly practical. I do that quite often. I imagine the shopkeepers dread to see me coming because I'm like a reverse impulse shopper...

It is very hard for me to leave the delicious book stores without buying something.

Online my downfall is a site called half.com-used or not used books at a discount (if you do it right). I like to keep a long wish list that I can visit often, and I've been doing pretty well lately with not buying books online.

Someone just lent me three books today! I got barnes and noble gift cards for my birthday a couple of weeks ago-so I've gotten my fix!! I've got "The Secret Life of Bees" on CD in my car for the commuting and so many more regular books to play with at home. I WILL RESIST further purchases.

I've lately gotten into the habit of passing on books that I've enjoyed, held on to forever (like moved house with 4 times or more) but haven't bothered to open up again. I give them to people I know whom I think might enjoy them, and so far they've been delighted, my bookcases have been lightened, so I can fill'em up again.
It's kind of cool.

I'm a terrible impulse buyer -- note, please, that I mention Costco often on this board? I can't walk through there without checking the books tables, and usually giving several books a good home...

And in bookstores? It's terrible -- I'd walk out with half the store, if I didn't have someone with me to stop that. (Way back, the first time my ex-before-last met my aunt, we walking into a bookstore and I bought a sack full of books. This was about 18 years ago, for price references, and I spent something over $100 on paperback books. I could hear the two of them whispering about it: Him: "Doesn't it scare you that she can spend over $100 on paperbacks?" Her: "No, what really scares me is that she'll read ALL of them." This was before he saw my bookcases at home...)

I'm not sure if I'm worse in store or online, though. At Amazon, with that "free shipping over $25" thing, I tend to load up a bit to get the free shipping. That means that, if I have been assigned a book by my therapist, for example, that costs, say, $10, well, I'll just have to buy something else, to get the free shipping -- and that's why the total is $82.43... Hey, my husband doesn't quite believe me, either...

Then again, I've made some of my very favorite discoveries that way! It was in Borders, in Emeryville, CA, that I discovered a true gem: "B*mbos of the Death Sun" Truly one of the best ever written. Loved it, and through it discovered one of my favorite contemporary writers.

OK. I'll stop now. Hubby has been in to see what I am typing so feverishly about, which means that he wants equal attention.
