So, Nikki, how does this work? Do you have to camp out in a queue all night at the bookstore?

I know kids (and their adults) who went to Borders last nght at midnight, which stayed open very late just for this reason. They couldn't sell the book before June 21st...
Can't wait to read it myself. I used the time in between the last book's release and now to catch up on all the other Harry Potter books, so I'm READY!

best to you Nikki & Noa,

Wendy

I must confess....

All I've read of the HP books is about 15 pages of the first one. I just couldn't get into it.

But I know how wonderful they've been for my nieces and nephews and for getting kids all over the world to read.

I have one nephew who has read each volume something like 10 to 15 times each!! Now, if we can get him to try reading something else, as well!

Well, until Tuesday I was too hooked into Harry POtter to come post, and since then I've been pretty low (I always get low after finishing a book I have enjoyed so much!)

But ITS GREAT!!!!!! Its alot slower paced than the others I think, but that gives you alot more insight into going on, and history, of Hogworts.. I learnt alot more about some of the main characters, and I cried buckets!!!

Part of me is now desperate for number 6, but part of me doesn't want 7 (and thus the end) to ever come.. expectency can be such fun!!

Hope everyone else who has / is reading is enjoying it as much as I did!!

Harry Potter--Rip Off?

Anyone notice that the theme of harry potter (Young boy goes to wizard school and becomes greatest wizard) was done before, and much much better, in the 60's by Ursula K. Leguin in her Wizard of Earthsea trilogy?

Don't get me wrong, I love harry potter, but the writing is much deeper, and more accessible to adults, in ms. LeGuin's books

I happen to be reading Wizard of Earthsea now. It is much shorter and to the point, for sure. But kids seem to like Potter better for whatever reason.

boy i found these books amazing... i liked them as a teenager, had sort of forgotten about them until i was asked to write a review of a book of criticism on children's science fiction and reread them. very deep and certainly obviously jungian...sometimes they almost felt self-help-like...though way better in story form.

i like harry potter too, though it is much lighter and seems more purely entertainment, which i need sometimes.

but le guin, her writing is certainly a cut above!

i have to agree about being low after reading a good book. i read 2-5 of the harry potter books this summer and was very low when i was done. i thought they were wonderful. i also can't wait for the 6th and 7th books, but will be sad when they are done. any dates for their releases yet?
