I would be interested in getting into the "Hells Angels by Hunter Thompson for December-preferably during Christmastime while I am visiting relatives. The intense contrast would be helpful for me since I am usually quite depressed at that time and only humourous contrasts seem to help the depression...

I think that would be a rather dark book to read during the Christmas weeks. Who is going to be more dark your relatives or "Hell's Angels"? Just curious..

> MAOh, I don't think Hell's Angels would be a dark book to read at all. I just read the first few pages on amazon and I can tell by Thompson's style, it would likely be an often *humorous* sociological work. It would likely be dark humor, I am sure. Also, since people seem to be losing some of their apolitical apathy recently, it might contain some ideas about current society that haven't changed much (even though the book was written in the mid-60's).
My family is always dark! ;)

I'm mostly kidding, but I thought it might pique interest in this board, which IMHO is languishing a bit.

I would nominate "Catch 22".
"Hell's Angels" has also been nominated. It's not my first choice but if Ritch still wants to read it, I would read it.
"THe Return of NIMH" (or something like that. Sorry, every time I try to refer back to a previous post, this unfinished one disappears and I'm tired of retyping it -- my work week was way too long.)
My vote is for "Catch 22". (I read this book forever ago and would really like to reread it. Should it become the selection, I'd have need and motivation).I would also read either one of the others. Basically, I'm neutral, but I did mention my preferred book.
I just saw that there was a sequal to "Catch 22" called "Closing Time - Sequel To Catch 22". Maybe that could b e considered instead of "Catch 22" which people may have already read.
What are you others thinking about?MA

I think you mean "Mrs Frisby and the rats of NIMH"
Thats my vote for this month.. infact, during a late night Amazon splurge last night I ordered it anyway, so having it as this months book would be very handy!!

Okay, abort my previous vote for "CAtch 22" and cast it instead for those rats runnning around the NIMH.

Hi, I haven't been over here in a while! "Catch-22" would be decent pick given that we are probably going to be in another war soon. I'd still like to read "Hell's Angels", but it probably is way to sociopathic for most everybody here. Were we supposed to read a children's book at some point? Flannery O'Connor got bantered about as well. I'm not really ready to vote just yet. I would like to return to fiction. What about Hesse's "Siddhartha"? :)
