I've been experimenting with Jarrow's Uridine Monophosphate .. partly because the supposed cognitive benefits are just too sweet to pass up, but also because it's a 'dopamine normalizer', and has showed some benefit in Parkinson's type side-effects in one or two small studies.
To that extent, it's pretty much vanquished my akathisia whenever I've taken the full 250mg dose, usually as a capsule on an empty stomach.
However, and I'm not sure if these two things are related, but I become noticeably bloated and also experience difficulty breathing. The breathing thing is accompanied by a kind of chest fullness and inability to draw a satisfying breath.
I struggle with bloating regardless, and someone suggested it might be a gut dysbiosis (hence the potato starch). The potato starch helps my anxiety anyway, and so, trying again, the reaction to 250mg Uridine hasn't been as severe.. but it's still there. Cutting the Uridine dose down helped the issue a bit, but didn't fix it, and lower doses weren't as beneficial for akathisia.
Anyway, I could totally buy it's just increased anxiety, but difficulty breathing isn't something I frequently experience, even when stuff has made me anxious, so was curious..

g_g_g_unit,
It's too bad that you've got to contend with the bloating and the breathing difficulties that you seem to be getting from the uridine monophosphate that you're taking, especially given what you wrote about the supplement pretty much vanquishing your akathisia. I think that I tried a different brand of uridine monophosphate once, but I don't remember staying on it for long, and I also don't remember much about how it affected me (although I don't think that I had difficulty breathing on it -- I would have remembered that). Have there been any changes in the way that the uridine monophosphate has been affecting you since you wrote your post? Are you still taking it?
Take care and be well,
Tomatheus

Thank you for your well wishes and concern, Tomatheus.
I decided to discontinue the Uridine because the breathing issue was persisting. It only lasted about 4-5 hours after dosing, but was uncomfortable enough to make me seek out alternatives.
In that regard, I've had some more success with L-theanine, which is also excellent for akathisia but which, despite its reputation, I find somewhat stimulating; because it only has a short half-life, I have to dose twice a day, and find it disturbs my sleep.
N-acetylcysteine is also helpful, but likewise causes some respiratory depression.
By the way, I found that the Uridine behaved substantially differently when I added in the co-factors (high-DHA fish oil and choline). Uridine alone didn't do much for my cognition, but the combination had a far more substantial impact. It may be worth experimenting with for your particular set of issues.

g_g_g_unit,
Thanks for your reply. I think it's too bad that the uridine monophosphate ultimately didn't seem to be worth taking because of the breathing problems that it gave you, but I'm glad that you've found that l-theanine and n-acetylcysteine both seem to be helpful for your akathisia. I certainly hope that by taking l-theanine, or perhaps NAC, you'll be able to keep your akathisia at bay.
Also, thank you for letting me know that you seemed to get a different response to uridine (more cognitive enhancement) when you took it with high-DHA fish oil and choline than when you took it alone. I will keep the combo that you mentioned in mind if my vitamin D3 trial ends up being mostly or completely unsuccessful in the long run or if I feel the need to augment my current regimen (which includes D3).
Take care,
Tomatheus

Yeah, same thing happened to me 2+ years ago when trialing uridine. Got and incredibly elevated heart-rate (we're talking in the 180's). Only supplement that has ever done this (and I've wasted a pretty penny on supplements). Very weird and frustrating.
Fish oil is tricky. The doses with any clinical signifigance are high as hell and you don't want to risk oxidation/rancidity with a cheaper product (omega 3 fatty acids are some of the most unstable fatty acids out there).
Take Care
