Posted by uncouth on August 30, 2010, at 0:46:43

Hi all,

I've made a few posts over the last few monthsa bout my experience with PEA. Moreso than anythign else i've ever tried, it's had a profound impact (positive) on my mood, ADHD, attention, sociability, energy, appetitie attenuation.

HAs anyoen else tried PEA?

SCOTT: How are you doing these days? I really think you should give PEA a try.

If anyone wants more info please ask any questions you'd like and I'll respond.

I will keep PEA in mind. Thanks, Uncouth.

What dosage of PEA are you taking? How long have you been responding well to PEA?

Someone I know responded robustly to low dosages of PEA, but it ultimately poop-out on him.

Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts.

Be well.

Doesn't pretty much everything has the potential to poop out at anytime? I might give PEA a shot. At least maybe I will use it on days when I need to be more productive.

I have taken 500mg on an empty stomach in the morning. Not a lot happened, but something.

This morning I took 1,000mg on an empty stomach in the morning.
I thought it was happening, but somewhat later I got this effect that others have referred to as 'the body effect' or 'the body stone' (I'm not sure which).

It seemed like the bodily accompaniment for what would otherwise be found in one of Shulgin's books. Not unpleasant. It didn't improve my mood a lot, but then I needed to feel uncomplicated.

I'm glad it has worked for you, Alex.

PEA is not your monotherapy, is it? I thought I remembered that you were taking several meds?

PEA is made in the body from Phenylalanine, I think. And Phenylalanine turns into tyrosine, which I have been taking for the last month or so, in addition to other supplements and medications. Tyrosine supports dopamine in the brain, which is good for stress while also keeping alertness sharp.

I take Cymbalta (60) and Ritalin (20 SR), along with omega-3s, B-complex, extra B6, Vitamin C, and Vitamin D, now Tyrosine. I started at 500 mg in the morning, but now take another 500 at midday. I'm convinced it takes the edge off the Ritalin while also extending or supplementing its increased attentional effects. I've had no side effects from the above combination except for vivid dreams (which can be quite interesting!) if I take B6 at night.

Dreams from B6? Years ago an ob-gyn prescribed it or recommended it for water weight of pms when I had it. I take 100mg daily for the same now as gain water during summer. But I didn't know dreaming was related to B6 consumption. Phillipa

Phillipa, do you take it before bed? I think that's when it causes vivid dreams. B6 is involved in so many cellular processes it's hard to know what is being affected, but I only have added supplements one at a time so I could notice the effects / side effects & B6 before bed does seem to cause vivid dreams. Seems like I've seen a reference to this somewhere online, but I can't find it right now.

My integrative doctor told me to take sufficient pyridoxal 5 phospahate so to be able to remember my dreams..........then I would be taking enough.

No I take it when get up and guess body has eliminated excess by then. What's this about taking B12 with B6 as did some googling myself. Wish you had your post or link. Phillipa

Philipa, the easiest way to get the right combo of B vitamins is to take a B-complex -- get the one thaqt says it's for "stress" because it has larger amounts. The thing with B-vitamins is that some of them require others in order to be effectively used by the body. The only problem with the B-complex formulations is that most of them use a less effective form of B-6, so I take extra B-6 in the form of P5P, which is more easily absorbed. B-6 supports dopamine & norepinephren in the brain.

Phillipa, I've not noticed increased anxiety with B-complex -- and anxiety is part of my primary dx, so I'm pretty sensitive to things that increase it.

Hi Uncouth,

I am interested in trying PEA. I have tried phenylalanine but understand that it is one step removed from the production of PEA.

Are you still having a positive benefit? What product did you get, from where and what price?

Are you taking an MAO-B inhibitor concurrently?

Thanks,

Really as know it's also for anxiety. Might be a psychological reaction will add back in tomorrow. Do you take early in day as opposed to night time? Phillipa

I take Paxil, an SSRI. Can PEA be safely taken whith PEA.
Also, what is maximum dosage for PEA? A. Shulgin says 1600 was a threshhold amount??

PEA half life is 5-10 minutes...

from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenethylamine

Phenylethylamine's half life is 510 minutes.[9][dubious discuss] Phenylethylamine is metabolized by MAO-A [2], MAO-B [1], aldehyde dehydrogenase and dopamine-beta-hydroxylase.[9] Phenylethylamine brain levels can be increased by a 1000 fold when taking a MAO Inhibitor and 3-4 times when taken by itself.[10][dubious discuss] Alcohol and THC increase phenylethylamine levels by a 4 fold.[10][dubious discuss]
