I started taking omega-3s 5 days ago. I'm taking 1.5g (900mgs EPA + 600mgs DHA). I've taken them before and saw no positive results. But I decided to try them again, not really expecting them to do anything for my mood, but figuring they're good in other ways and probably can't hurt.
Anyways, I've been feeling somewhat better during the past few days than I had felt in weeks. I'm wondering if it's possible that the omega-3s could really work so fast? Has anyone had such a rapid response? Could I benefit even more if I take a higher dose?
Also, can omega-3s be helpful for ADD?

In animal studies (forced swim test) antidepressive effect was shown first after 30 days.
In human studies full antidepressive effect was shown after 8-10 weeks. I do not think they cared to ask patients after just one day.
My experience is that alertness is improved from day one. The immediate effect is probably due to EPA inhibits formation of PGE2, an inflammatory prostaglandin.
Longterm supplement will also increase serotonin levels.
